The 2016 participants will run the 26.2 mile marathon in memory of Jack Day IHS 2011.

"This year, celebrates the life of 2011 Ilion graduate Jack Day. Jack continues to impact the the lives of students and faculty in a positive and meaningful way. The Class of 2016 will embody his legacy and fighting spirit when they step onto the Central Valley Academy track on Thursday, June 9." Members of Jack's family are also running as a team.

Event Date June 9, 2016 at 3 pm at Central Valley Academy Track.

Jack's mother, Patty (Vayo) Day IHS 1986 and Barringer Road School Aid is married to Tim Day, IHS 1981. In a related story, Patty shared Jack's six-year journey from his initial diagnosis to his sad passing in August 2015. Jack Day's brave tale sets the stage for the 2016 Mott Marathon She hoped Jack's story would teach people to watch for the disease [melanoma], to take steps to prevent it, and spare others from enduring the sadness. In that hope, she finds her therapy." (March 25,2016)

 

Condolences

Mrs. Bonnie L. (Kehoe) Coffin, IHS 1981 age 59, of Ilion, passed away unexpectedly, on Saturday, January 18, 2025. Born in New Hartford, NY, on December 18, 1965, Bonnie was the daughter of the late Andrew and Beverly (Northrup) Kehoe. She was raised and educated in Ilion and a graduate of Ilion High School and also received a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, from SUNY Oneonta. On September 16, 1989, Bonnie was married to William Coffin, Jr. and together they shared a blessed union for over 35 years. Bonnie in her early years worked for Herkimer County Social Services as a Welfare Fraud Investigator. After that, Bonnie was Executive Secretary to the Judge in the New York State Unified Court System. Put simply, Bonnie lived for her children and especially her grandchildren. If a volunteer was needed for a field trip, Bonnie was the first name on the sign-up sheet. If a coach was needed for any sport, she was there with a whistle in hand. Bonnie loved nothing more than enjoying a glass of Merlot surrounded by family and friends. She led a life of selflessness and continued to support her family and extend a helping hand to anyone in need. Bonnie is survived by her husband, Billy; her brother, Thomas Kehoe, of Oriskany Falls; her three children, Lindsay Coffin, of Ilion, Abigail Coffin and Bob Walters, Jr., of Greencastle, Indiana and Andrew Coffin and Sierra Leitten, of Buffalo, New York; her two grandchildren, Kristopher Jones and Isla Walters, with grandchild number three on the way. She also leaves her in-laws, Kathy Coffin, of Ilion, Mary and Greg Day, of Clayton, New York, Mike Coffin and Thomas Daugherty, of Miami, Florida and Karen and Chet Slowik, of Ilion; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father-in-law, Bill Coffin, of Ilion. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Funeral Service and Celebration of Life for Bonnie, on Friday morning, January 31, 2025, at 11:00AM, at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000. We kindly invite all to attend and ask those that do, to please begin arriving at the funeral home at 10:00 AM, as there will be one calling hour prior to the service starting. After traditional Catholic Funeral Rites are performed by Deacon James Bower, at the funeral home, the family then invites all over to the Ilion Knights of Columbus for a luncheon. Therese A. (Champagne) Colwell, IHS 1981, age 59, of Herkimer passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2022 in Little Falls Hospital with her family by her side. She was born in Ilion, NY on December 11, 1962, the daughter of the late Edward and Patricia Thomas Champagne. She attended Ilion Schools and graduated from Ilion High School with the class of 1981. She was married to Richard "Skip" Colwell in Herkimer. Skip passed away on July 10, 2021. Therese was employed as a sales person for Continental Auto Parts, Little Falls for many years. She was of the Catholic faith Therese is survived by Skip's children that she loved dearly as if they were her own, Skip's son, Brian Colwell and his fiancee, Patty Kaczorowski of Rome; Skip's daughter and son in law, Jennifer and her husband, Michael Dipierro of Herkimer; two brother and sisters in law, Michael and his wife, Dana Champagne of Herkimer and Christopher and his wife, Sandy Champagne of Niverville NY; two sisters and brothers in law, Mary and her husband, Peter Szewczyk of Ilion and Barbara and her husband, James Lincourt of Litchfield; her grandchildren, Joshua Dipierro, Mia Dipierro and Jackson Colwell and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, John Champagne. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, June 23, 2022 from 4-6 at the V.J. Jerome D. Alsante, IHS 1981, age age 59, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022. Jerome Alsante was an intellect, with a wonderful sense of humor, who had the ability to light up a room with his antics and contagious laughter. Jerome genuinely enjoyed living in our beautiful Upstate New York and spent countless hours hunting, fishing and working on his home and Lakehouse. The "Jer" had a special relationship with all of his friends and there was this comfort and familiarity among them that laid the foundation for so many special and supportive friendships. Born on December 18, 1962, Jerome was the youngest child of Jerome and Rose Marie Alsante. He spent his youth in Ilion, N.Y. where he attended Ilion High School. Jerome graduated from Suny IT at Utica Rome University and spent his long and fulfilling work career with The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Mr. Alsante leaves behind his significant other, Deborah Streeter, who he loved, adored and deeply respected. Deborah Streeter's two children Adam Bullis and Erin Dempsy and her husband, Jason were always dear to Jerome and an integral, important part of his life. Jerome also leaves behind his three sisters: Deborah Alsante and her husband, Edward Pena, Donna Alsante Murphy and her husband, Bill Murphy, and Dawn Alsante Calhoun and her husband, Ron Calhoun; and several nieces and nephews: Jennifer Murphy, Avery Murphy, Melissa Goff and her husband, Jared Goff, Kyle Murphy, Jack Alamond, Dominick Calhoun and his wife, Chelsea and Salvatore Calhoun and his wife, Alejandra. A special thank you is extended to the staff at St. Luke's Hospital and especially Alek for their outstanding care and compassion during this difficult journey. We are incredibly lucky to have you in the Valley. The Alsante family extends a heartfelt thank you to our family, friends and neighbors, for their tireless support on our journey with Jerome. William "Bugs" Moran, IHS 1981, age 58 passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021, in his home in Westfield, WI, of natural causes beside his faithful dog, Skidgey. Most likely, he immediately started Heaven's largest party when reuniting with his parents Teresa and Eugene "Skidge" Moran, brother Terry Moran, nephew Ryan Schults, and other friends who left us far too soon. Bugs, Bugsy, Bill, Billy, Uncle Billy, Big Round Head…he went by many names, but was more notorious for nicknaming everyone around him. Born in Ilion, NY on June 11, 1963, Bugs graduated from Ilion High School and soon after enlisted in the United States Air Force. The Air Force took Bugsy to many locations, including England, Germany, Louisiana, and Las Vegas. In his late 20s, Bugs moved to Milwaukee, WI where he tended bar with close friends, and met Nikki Lorenz. Together Bugs and Nikki raised their daughter, Cailey, in West Allis, WI, where Bugs resided until late 2020. Bugs then moved to Westfield with Skidgey, where he was welcomed with open arms by many new friends. Bugs spent a large majority of his life enlisted in the military, between his active duty in the Air Force and his involvement in the Air National Guard. In addition to being employed by the ANG for many years, he eagerly deployed to locations like England, Guam, Hawaii, Turkey, and even Kuwait. He was most proud of his time spent as a First Sergeant. Bugs retired and was honorably discharged from the Air National Guard in 2014. Aside from his dedicated military career, Bugs dreamed of a career in acting. He succeeded in landing a number of memorable local commercials, as well as a few national ads along the way. He also dedicated a lot of his time to singing and songwriting, even recording a CD of some of his original songs. Mostly, he enjoyed "laughing and joking and drinking all the way” with his countless friends all over the world. In WI, Bugs was survived by his daughter, Cailey Moran; stepdaughter, Beth Kochinski and her husband Otto Rammer; grandchildren, Otto and Vivian; and longtime partner, Nikki Lorenz. In NY, Bugs was survived by his sister Colleen and her husband Robert Schults, sister Mary and her husband John Reitz, and niece Colleen and her husband Mark Olivella. A memorial mass will take place on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at 11:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk, NY with his Godfather, Reverend Michael Finn, and Sister Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director, officiating. Burial will follow at Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion, NY with full military honors, accorded. Following the services at the cemetery, a Celebration of Life, "Bugsy Style”, At the Ilion Knights of Columbus from 1:00 – 4:00, as we are also celebrating what would have been his 59th birthday. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY 315-866-1500. In lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions to the Herkimer Humane Society, 514 State Route 5s, Mohawk, NY 13407, because of the love he had for his four-legged friends. Leo F. Griffin IHS 1981, age 57, a lifelong Ilion and Frankfort resident, passed away after a brief illness on Friday morning, February 19, 2021 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Born on June 17, 1963, Leo was the son of the late Leo F. Griffin, Jr. and Alice (Fink) Griffin. He was raised and educated locally, attending Ilion schools. On November 3, 1985, Leo was wed to the former Tammy Treen at St. Mary's Church in Frankfort. Together, Leo and Tammy shared in a loving union of over eighteen years, until Tammy's untimely passing on November 23, 2003. Many would remember Leo from his over twenty years spent as an attendant at Chip's Gas Station in Ilion; you could always rely on Leo to have a smile and joke for you and he had an unforgettable sense of humor. He also spent time in the maintenance department for Park Edge Town Homes. Leo loved the game of golf and rarely missed an opportunity to participate in an outing or league event. He was also an avid sports enthusiast, rooting for the NY Giants, NY Mets and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Leo is survived by his daughter, Carly Griffin and her boyfriend, Patrick Parmer of Little Falls; his sister, Brenda Crane of Maine; and his in-laws, Cathy Treen-Altieri of Frankfort, Wendy Lambert of Tampa, Florida, Cindy and Dominick Alsheimer of Mexico, NY, Mark Treen of Whitesboro and John Medina of Ilion. He also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, with special mention of his good buddy, Steve Fish. Aside from his parents and beloved, Tammy, Leo was predeceased by his sisters, Linda Doolen and Denise Medina, his parents-in-law, James and Catherine Treen, and his brother-in-law, James "JJ" Treen. In keeping with Leo's wishes, there will be no formal funeral services at this time. His earthly remains will be laid to rest beside his wife in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frankfort in the Spring of 2021. Ms. Julie M. Leonard, IHS 1981, age 57, a lifelong Ilion resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, August 19, 2020 after an extended illness. Her passing occurred at the Grand at Mohawk Valley, where she received compassionate and heartfelt care during her last months. Born on May 21, 1963, Julie was the daughter of the late Howard and Fay (Mabbett) Leonard. She was raised and educated locally and was a graduate from Ilion High School. She also attended Herkimer County BOCES and was a NYS licensed beautician. Julie worked for many years as a Teacher's Aide for the Ilion Central School District where she was passionate about the well-being of the students whose lives she was able to touch throughout her career. Julie was also passionate about her work with grief support and therapy; she wrote books pertaining to her experiences with grief and surviving after the loss of a loved one. She also facilitated grief support groups throughout the years. Julie was predeceased by her two beloved children, Rhiannon Boyer and Dustyn Boyer; her parents, Howard and Fay; as well as her brother, Kevin Leonard. She is survived by her brothers, former Mayor of Ilion, Terry Leonard and his wife, Linda, of Ilion, and Aaron Leonard and his wife, Irka, of Los Angeles, CA; her sisters, Sally Pugia and husband, Ralph of Longs, SC , and Robin Brandon and husband, Keith, of Middleburg, FL; her sister-in-law, Sandy Leonard of Long Island; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Due to current health restrictions, there will be a memorial graveside service for Julie at a later date and time, where her earthly remains will be laid to rest in Mt. View Memorial Gardens at the convenience of her family. The Leonard family has entrusted their sister's final wishes to Harry and Kevin Enea and Martin L. Donald W. Stannard, IHS 1981, age 56, of Center St., Ilion, passed away as a result of a tragic accidental drowning while fishing, on Friday, July 10, 2020. He was born on July 21, 1963, in Ilion, the son of Donald G. and Irene F. (Kellogg) Stannard and graduated from Ilion High School. Don was a machine operator at Kwik-Kut Mfg. Co., Mohawk. He had also worked for many years, at the Mohawk Valley Florist, Ilion. He attended the Church of the Annunciation. Don enjoyed being an engineer on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad. He also loved to go fishing. He was a former member of the Ilion Volunteer Fire Dept. Surviving family members include his mother and father, Irene and Donald G. Stannard, with whom he resided in Ilion; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many close family friends. A Memorial Prayer Service will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at 12 noon, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home's larger location, at 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion (Town of Frankfort), with Deacon James Bower, officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon prior to the service. Please wear a mask if you plan to attend. Joseph M. Kennedy, IHS 1981, age 54, of Ilion passed away on Thursday, October 5th, 2017. Joseph was born on June 11, 1963 in New Hartford, NY. He was a 1981 graduate of Ilion Jr./Sr. High School, attended H.C.C.C., and the BOCES nursing program through M.V.C.C. Joe was a lifelong member of the Ilion Fish and Game Club. His favorite activities included hunting, fishing, foraging, and all things nature related. More recently, Joe enjoyed studying the law. He was an avid reader, and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with everyone. Joe was married to Christine Acker on August 16th, 2003. He worked for a short time with MOVAC, and then worked for Herkimer County Hospice for 12 years. He also enjoyed working at Burrows Paper Mill prior to his illness. Joe is survived by his 2 step-children, Candice and Steven Shore, 2 grandchildren, Cadence and Hunter Smith, his sister Victoria Lohr and her husband John, his niece Erin Marmontello and nephew Michael Marmontello, his closest friends, Robert (Bubba) Brown and Dawn Brown. Joe was predeceased by his wife, his father (Michael S. Kennedy), and his grandparents (Rip and Laura Day). Joe will be truly missed by many close friends and acquaintances. There will be no calling hours or formal services. A private gathering will take place at a later time. (October 9, 2017)

 

Ms. Mary Susan Timperlake IHS 1981 , age 52, currently of Ilion, and formerly of Midway, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, September 24, 2015, at the Siegenthaler Center, surrounded by the comfort of her family at her bedside. Born on July 23, 1963, in Oxford, NY, Mary is the daughter of Sun Y. (Cho) Timperlake and Peter Andrew Timperlake. Raised in Ilion, she was a graduate of Ilion Jr./Sr. High School with the Class of 1981. Upon graduation, Mary furthered her education at Herkimer County Community College where she earned an Associate's Degree in Travel and Tourism. Mary's career in the airline industry spanned over 30 years. She began her employment as a reservation specialist with Empire Airlines in Oriskany and through a series of mergers, relocated to Winston-Salem, NC, where she was currently employed by U.S. Airways/American Airlines. An easy going and fun loving woman, Mary loved her time spent with family and friends and she especially loved the holidays. She also loved spending time with her nephew, Robert, especially their walks in the woods and playing golf together. She was a true people person and a kind soul who always put others before herself. She thoroughly enjoyed travel, and took advantage of her position in the airline industry to take many trips throughout the world. She was an avid reader and sports fan, the constant supporter of both NASCAR and Syracuse Men's Basketball. Mary will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind. She is survived by her parents, Sunya Timperlake and her fiancée, William Szablak of Ilion and Peter Andrew Timperlake and his wife, Nancy, of Oxford; her sister and best friend, Janet Brown and her husband, James of Mohawk; her beloved nephew, Robert H. Brown, also of Mohawk; and her half-brother, Andrew Timperlake. Her memory will live on in the hearts of many dear friends she made throughout her life, especially Patricia Moynihan, Beverley Sweeney and Pamela Marsh. She was predeceased by her fiancée, Jimmy Tolbert. Friends and relatives are invited to attend visitation on Sunday, September 27, 2015 from 1:00PM to 3:00PM at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home's newly reopened home at 102 West, St. Ilion. Mary's funeral service and Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 3:00PM immediately following visitation, at the funeral home, on 102 West St., Ilion with Reverend Sally M. Heiligman, Priest-In-Charge, of Grace Episcopal Church of Mohawk, officiating. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. The family would like to extend gratitude to the health care team at the Siegenthaler Center for their compassion and care shown to Mary in her last days. Margaret 'Peggy' Lacy Sadallah

Margaret 'Peggy' Lacy Sadallah, age 51, New Hartford, NY went to be with her God on Thursday December 4, 2014 with her loving family by her side. Maggie fought a courageous five year battle with breast cancer. She was born on July 23, 1963 in Ilion, NY a daughter of the late Robert and Jane Daly Lacy and was educated in local schools, having graduated from MVCC. On October 3, 1986 in the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, NY, she was married to S. Charles 'Chuck' Sadallah, a blessed union of 28 years. The simple things in life often meant the most to Jamie, spending time with family and friends, sharing good times and bad, and always being there for those she loved and cared about. She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation. Maggie enjoyed reading, music, talking with friends at the coffee shop, watching the Yankees, being kind to others but most of all, being with her family. She loved being a Mom, and her family meant the world to her. She leaves behind her beloved husband Chuck, her two beautiful daughters Michelle and Danielle and her k-9 friend Max. She also leaves behind her loving sister Jane Kline who was a constant support and comfort, along with her brother in-law Mike Kline; She also leaves her mother in-law Vera Sadallah; two sisters in-law and two brothers in-law, Diane Cosenzi; Marianne and Mike Durham and Mike Sadallah; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and very special friends. Maggie's family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Faxton St. Luke's RegionalCancerCenter, where the nurses took wonderful care of her. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 1:00 pm at St. John the EvangelistChurch, Oxford Rd. New Hartford. Private interment will be in CalvaryCemetery. Jay Andrew McTiernan IHS 1981, of Highland, NY died on January 4th, after a long illness. Andrew was born in Ilion, NY in 1963 to Charles and Joyce McTiernan. He graduated from Ilion High School and received his Bachelors Degree from East Carolina University. Andrew was the beloved husband of Linda Halaska McTiernan and the devoted father of Jack and Ewan. In building their family together, Andrew achieved his greatest accomplishment. Most recently, Andrew was part of the team at Studio Macbeth in Kingston, NY, that was awarded an Emmy for outstanding digital animation. And together with Linda, Andrew opened the Zipper Theater in Manhattan, which premiered several highly acclaimed off-Broadway productions. Jay McTiernan.......

Jay Andrew McTiernan was a Television Producer for Studio Macbeth. Studio Macbeth won a News and Documentary Emmy award on Sept. 27, 2010, for work on the documentary "Stealing Lincoln's Body," for the History Channel. The award was presented by Dan Rather. The event took place at the the Fredrick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, located in the Time Warner Center in New York City. Other winners included: McNeil/Lehrer NewsHour, NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams NBC Miracle on the Hudson Brian Williams, CBS Evening News with Katie Couric CBS Rape in America: Justice Denied Katie Couric, Dan Rather Reports HDNet Iran's Manhattan Project, ABC News Special Events ABC Inauguration 2009 Barack Obama, HBO Documentary Films HBO Which Way Home, Bill Moyers Journal PBS The Good Soldier.
