James A. 'Jim' Chilluffo, IHS 1987 age 53, of Westernville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 22, 2022. Born in Rome, on August 21, 1969, Jim was the son of Suzanne (Kelley) Griffin and the late Thomas D. Chilluffo, Sr. Jim graduated from Ilion High S Rebecca M. "Becky" (Pestar) Wiegand, IHS 1988, age 53, had an unforeseen passing on Sunday, September 17, 2023, in the company of her family. Born in Ilion on May 26, 1970, Becky was the treasured daughter of Pamela M. "Pam" (Small) Pestar and the late Albert A. "Al" Pestar. She graduated from Ilion High School in 1988, and continued her education, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in education. On October 22, 1993, Becky wed Eric Wiegand. The couple truly were best friends, committed to each other through the ups and downs, never regretting a single moment. They were the completion of each other's souls and balanced each other's personalities. Becky was employed in accounts receivable and billing at Northern Safety, a position she enjoyed and where she made lasting friendships. She was loved by her coworkers and her group considered each other family. Being her father's daughter, Becky possessed a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She was also incredibly compassionate and loving, and accepted people for who they were. Becky was a lover of animals and gave a home to rescued cats and dogs throughout her life. Through the video game Dungeons and Dragons, her true friends in life were also her crew; the camaraderie truly pleasured her heart and soul. One of her greatest titles was to be called "Aunt," and was she a great one! It brought her great joy bringing her nieces and nephews out for fun adventures to the Utica Zoo and Herkimer ARC Park. An avid reader, Becky never settled on a particular genre. She gave her attention to Stephen King, religious books and true crime. One of her most favorite times of the year were Christmas and any holiday she could gather with her family. She brought laughter and a sense of joy to each occasion and everyone appreciated the child in her that reflected how she engaged with her nieces and nephews. In the summer, she enjoyed vacations at the family camp, first on Seventh Lake, then at Evergreen Lake near Piseco in the Adirondacks. Whenever in the beauty of the north country, she and her husband always made it a tradition to have breakfast at Drake's Inn in Old Forge. Becky possessed a belief and deep faith in God. Listening to K-Love and gospel music brought her great comfort and inspiration. Becky is survived by her loving husband, Eric; devoted mother, Pam; her siblings and their loves, Rachel Pestar and Sheri McConnell, and Albert "Al," II and (BK) Bekki Pestar. Her precious memory will be cherished by her nieces and nephews, Jessica Wiegand and Kasim Sakinovic, Katelyn Wiegand and Carl Johnson, Gerry Joseph and Lynsie Wiegand, Jamie Wiegand, Alex Wiegand and Shawn, Isabelle Pestar, Elijah Pestar, Abigal Pestar, Elizabeth Pestar, and Daniel Pestar; great-nieces and great-nephews, Tiana, Blake, Autumn, Harmony, and Nella; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gerry and Janet (Guyer) Wiegand; in-laws, Gerry, Jr. and Tammy Wiegand and Raymond "Ray" Wiegand and Renee Miller. She is further survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins, especially acknowledging Becky Kasper, whom she considered her second mom, and her children, Rob and Kim Pierce, Scott and Linda Pierce, and Renee and Paul Grimes and their families. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Enea and Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion. A brief Prayer Service will commence on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in North Columbia Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Becky's honor may be made to the Herkimer County Humane Society, 514 State Rte 5S, Mohawk, NY 13407, or online at https://www.herkimerhumanesociety.org/donate/. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home. Becky's funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Enea, Ciaccia & Applegate Funeral Directors, with sincerest thanks to Nancy, Mike and staff, at the Eannace Funeral Home, for their friendship and guidance. Carrie (Lenarcic) Firestone Writes Novel
IHS 1988 alumnus, Carrie (Lenarcic) Firestone, joins the list of Ilion graduate authors with her debut, young adult, novel "The Loose Ends List". Carrie's novel was released in June 2016. Her novel was featured in the Utica Observer Dispatch news story. "The story is about 17-year-old Maddie O'Neill Levine, whose grandmother is also her go-to confidante. According to the author's website, the grandmother has "booked the family on a secret death-with-dignity ship called the Wishwell, as the grandmother has terminal cancer and is determined to leave the world in her own way — and give her family an unforgettable summer of dreams-come-true in the process." The novel can be ordered on-line at the following links: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Book Depository, Google Play, Indiebound and Walmart. Carrie graduated from William Smith College with a bachelor’s degree in English and anthropology. She earned a master’s degree from Columbia University Teacher's College. She is the daughter of retired HCCC professors Ray and Faye Lenarcic. Carrie lives with her husband, Michael, in Avon, Connecticut. Carrie co-founded The Ilion Project in 2010. The group was started after she began with a grass-roots movement to collect information on illnesses and gather environmental data on potential pollution in the Village of Ilion. Carrie began investigating contamination after her sister, Jennifer (Lenarcic) Snyder of New Hartford, was diagnosed in 2008 with a brain tumor. Carrie asked her IHS 1988 classmates if they had any health problems. The classmates started a website and began collecting data on illnesses among Ilion natives and current residents, calling the effort "The Ilion Project." Current information about the efforts can be found on The Ilion Project Facebook discussion group. (June 27, 2016)
Class of 1988 - 25th Class reunion Plans
Friday, Nov. 29th weekend of Thanksgiving 2013
Vicki Coffin Judd Running for New School Board"I have served on the Mohawk Central School District BOE for the past two years. This experience has been invaluable in learning what educational fiscal responsibility involves. It is different than corporate fiscal budgeting due to educational law, union contracts and the governing process of the district. The BOE is responsible mainly for the budget, contract negotiations, governing the Superintendent to ensure he/she does their job and overall providing the best educational programs/opportunities for said district through auditing and processes. I've enjoyed being a part of this and being involved in the merger process first as a Community Advisory Committee member where I learned the details of each district. This inspired me to run for the Mohawk BOE." "Now I'd like to be a part of building this new foundation as we move forward together for our kids, our communities and our staff. I also am a 42 yr old mom of three children ages four to eight, so I have real skin in the game. I've been married for ten years to James Judd, a Guidance Counselor in a neighboring district. I’ve been employed with IBM for almost 18 years worldwide as an ERP Project Manager and Services Expert which has required a technology expertise, business process re-engineering, people and project management as well as budgetary and negotiation skills for various corporations. I graduated from RPI in 1992, Sage’s Jr. College of Albany in 1990 and Ilion High School in 1988. Other than serving on the Mohawk BOE, my other community involvement includes:"
* Mohawk AYSO soccer referee "In the case we do not have a candidate meet and greet forum, I welcome those Ilion and Mohawk residents interested in discussion topics or asking questions about my BOE run to contact me via FB, 868 9368 or at vicki.coffin@us.ibm.com."

We are stationed here at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri and bought a house in Warrensburg (about 40 miles east of Kansas City). I am excited about this web page and hope I to renew some old friendships." - Jim Amy Bullis, email, an Art Director from Los Angeles, CA, registered in the directory. (May 9, 1998) "I can't believe I fell into this sight! It was great to read all the entries from the class of '88. 10 years! Holy... I've been living in Los Angeles for the last 5 years, living through earthquakes and generally having a great time, but I do have my bouts with homesickness. I will visit this sight often. It's good to know home is only a keystroke away. Wainis!-Where are you?" - Amy Scott Prosser, from Fulton, NY, email, registered in the directory. I will be bringing my laptop and will definitely show her the site. I didn't elaborate on the my guest book page, but after browsing other entries, think I should have." "I was class President at my HS in Wilmington, DE and have started to organize our ten year reunion. That is how I came across your page. I believe it was a link from classmates.com. I wish that we had something similar to the IHS page. It is definitely outstanding, both in format an ease of use. I was quite impressed." "I would have graduated in 1988 from IHS if we did not move to Delaware. I currently am living on the East End of Long Island where I have been since graduating from the US Merchant Marine Academy in 1993."
