Top Scholars of the IHS Class of 2005 ....

The 31st annual honors dinner was held to honor senior members of the IHS Class of 2005. These students were honored for earning outstanding scholastic records and achievements during their high school careers. Each of these students attained a final average of 90 percent or better.

Christina Kucerak is the 2005 valedictorian. Kucerak has been accepted to the Rochester Institute of Technology where she will study Imaging Science.

Gail Murray is the salutatorian for the class of 2005. Murray plans to begin her college studies at Herkimer County Community College, where she will receive the Foundation Tuition Scholarship. (June 20, 2005)

Panarites Outstanding Senior Girl Athlete.....

Carly M. Edick is the recipient of the Panarites Outstanding Senior Girl Athlete Award. This award has the same criteria as the Boy Athlete's Lever Cup. Carly earned 12 varsity letters. She also received The James Panarites Family Scholar/Athlete Award at the graduation ceremonies. Carly is the daughter of Tami Steele Edick...IHS Class of '77. She is the granddaughter of William (Dinny) Steele...Class of '54 and the niece of Alan Steele...Class of '82. Both Dinny and Alan were recipients of the Lever Cup. Condolences.....

Matthew Christopher Moore, IHS 2005, age 36, passed away unexpectedly on October 31, 2023, in Schenectady, NY. Matthew was born on December 11, 1986, in Binghamton, NY, to his loving parents, Mark and Carol (Serino) Moore. He was a graduate of Ilion High School and earned his Bachelor's degree in Business from SUNY IT. Matthew was employed as a Business Systems Analyst for the NYS Gaming Commission. He had a wide range of interests and achievements, including a passion for tennis, a commitment to fitness and working out, a love for traveling, excellent communication skills, public speaking abilities, and a natural ability to connect with people. He also ran the Boiler Maker with his mother and was health-conscious. Additionally, Matthew was a member of his Baptist Church. Matthew is survived by his parents, Mark and Carol Moore, his brother Richard Moore, and his fiancee Trinity. He is also survived by his sister Michelle Solano and her husband Hermes, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. A visitation to remember and celebrate Matthew's life will be held at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a service officiated by Jim Mott. Christopher S. Brockway IHS 2005 - US Army Specialist Christopher S. Brockway age 24, formerly of Ilion passed away after a short illness on Saturday July 9, 2011 at Fort Leonard Wood. He was born on June 1, 1987 in Utica, beloved son of Scott and Roberta Atkinson Brockway. Chris was raised in Ilion and graduated from Ilion High School with the class of '2005'. He furthered his education at Herkimer County Community College where he received an Associates Degree in Arts. In June of 2005, he enlisted in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged in August of 2006. In December of 2008, he joined the US Army. He had served overseas in South Korea and more recently at Fort Leonard Wood where he was a Patient Admissions Specialist at the base hospital. Chris had a strong belief in God and was a member of Annunciation Church in Ilion. He was also a member of AMVETS. In his leisure time he enjoyed poetry, both writing and publishing much of his work. He also enjoyed music, video games and reading. He was a keen history buff, particularly military history. To all who knew him they will never forget a quiet, intelligent and unassuming young man who loved his family and his country. He had the gift of making friends easily and was well thought of no matter where he was. He will be greatly missed by many especially his loving family. He is survived by his parents Scott and Roberta Brockway of Ilion, a sister Alison Bowman and her husband Matthew of Ithaca, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Jesse and Mary Atkinson and Elgin and Helen Brockway. His family will be present to receive relatives and friends in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer on Sunday July 17 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Annunciation Church, Ilion on Monday July 18 at 10:00am. The Reverend Anthony Barrett, Pastor will officiate with assistance of Deacon James Bower. Reverend John Bassett, Rector of Saint Augustine's Episcopal Church, Ilion will also be present. Interment with full military honors will follow in Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville, NY. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association or the USO. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. (July 14, 2011)
