2008 Ilion Yearbook

 

Digitized Class Yearbook....

Every Mile A Memory Ilion High School 2008 from the New York Heritage digital Ilion Free Public Library Yearbooks collection. Unfortunately, this yearbook contained fonts that were not readable by the New York Heritage - ABBYY FineReader OCR to produce PDF index text. As a result, this yearbook is not very useful as a search-able asset. Let that be a lesson to future yearbook editors. Link opens in new browser tab. (added March 27, 2021)

Top Scholars of the IHS Class of 2008 ....

The 34th annual honors dinner was held to honor senior members of the IHS Class of 2008. These students were honored for earning outstanding scholastic records and achievements during their high school careers. Each of these students attained a final average of 90 percent or better. (June 6, 2008)

Angela Verenich is the 2008 Valedictorian.

Verenich's years at Ilion High School have been filled with significant accomplishments in both her scholastic endeavors and extra-curricular activities. Verenich is an outstanding student whose academic efforts have earned her membership in both the National Junior Honor Society and Senior National Honor Society. She has been on the high honor roll each quarter of high school and has received the Honor I award each year. In her junior year, she was awarded the CANY Merit Award from Alfred University for outstanding academic achievement in math and science. She has balanced her scholastic endeavors with a variety of extra-curricular activities. She participated in the Regional Program for Excellence throughout her senior year where she was able to explore her future aspirations of a career in fashion. She has also been involved in Newspaper Club, Yearbook Club, Art Club and Spanish Club, as well as playing on Ilion's volleyball team. In the fall, Verenich plans on attending HCCC for fashion merchandising. Upon completion of her Associate's degree from HCCC, she plans on transferring to Cazenovia College to work towards her Bachelor's degree.

Erin Sweeney is the 2008 Salutatorian.
Erin is the daughter of Aileen Carney Sweeney IHS 1974, grand-daughter of Dr. Theodore Carney IHS 1936.

During Sweeney's years at Ilion High School, she has distinguished herself in both the classroom and extra-curricular activities. She is first and foremost an excellent student. Since beginning high school, she has been on the high honor roll each quarter and has earned the Honor I Award each year. She has been selected for membership in the National Junior Honor Society and the Senior National Honor Society. This year she is enrolled in advanced placement English, biology and calculus. In her junior year, she was awarded the Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony Award in Humanities and Social Sciences from the University of Rochester for her outstanding academic achievement. Sweeney has balanced her scholastic endeavors with a variety of extra-curricular activities. She has participated at the highest level in Ilion's athletic program as a team player and asset to the field hockey, volleyball, and softball teams. She has further been an active participant in Ilion's music program by participating in chamber choir, chamber singers, chorus, Drama Club and NYSSMA Solo Festival. Sweeney further chose to take on leadership roles while in high school by serving on Student Council, as well as being a member of Spanish Club and the Newspaper Club. Next year, she plans on attending SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forrestry/Syracuse University and will be majoring in biotechnology.

2008 Class Dentist.....

Ilion Class of 2008 - Erin Sweeney DDS

Erin Sweeney, graduated from the University of Buffalo, School of Dental Medicine in May 2016. Fellow dentist, Dr. Bridget Sweeney, (Erin's sister and IHS graduate 2004) presented Erin with her Commencement Doctoral hood during the UB graduation ceremony. Erin is the daughter of Aileen Carney Sweeney. She is the granddaughter of Dr. Theodore Carney IHS 1936. (October 24, 2022)
