Robert Mulvey was born Dec. 5, 1904 in Pittsburgh, Pa., a son of Michael and Phoebe Roulx Mulvey. His parents moved to Ilion in 1908. He graduated from Ilion High School in 1922. He attended the Albany College of Pharmacy and graduated along with his brother, William, in 1922. Two other Ilionites were also members of the Class of 1924, Richard Byrnes and Robert Baker.

His son, Robert Mulvey IHS 1945, also attended the Albany College of Pharmacy and would have graduated with the class of 1951. It appears that he did not complete the program as he was not listed among the 1951 graduates.

Robert Mulvey married Esther Seeber, in 1925, in Frankfort NY. In 1946, Robert Mulvey bought The Carney Block, 9 Central Avenue, which at that time was more that 60 years old. The block included three apartments on the second floor. It block was erected, about 1885, by Dr. Draper. In 1956, Robert Mulvey purchased the Russell Pharmacy, on Otsego Street, from the Benjamin A. Russell estate. He brother William joined as a partner in the pharmacy in 1955. Warren T. Lennox, owner of Lennox Pharmacy, E. Main St., purchased Mulvey's Pharmacy on Otsego St. in January 1969. Lennox purchased the business from Mrs. Esther M. Mulvey who has operated the drug store since the death of her husband, Robert, last June.

Below is the June 29, 1968 obituary and July 3, 1968 services announcement, for Robert Mulvey. the articles appeared in The Herkimer Evening Telegram.

Robert C. Mulvey, 63, of 9 Hillside Pl., owner of Mulvey's Medical Center here, died suddenly yesterday in Sidney, Nova Scotia, where he and his wife were vacationing. Born Dec. 5, 1904 in Pittsburgh. Pa., a son of Michael and Phoebe Roulx Mulvey, he came to Ilion in 1905. He married Esther Seeber, in 1925 in Frankfort. He was a member of the Church of Annunciation and its Holy Name Society.

Surviving are his widow; a son, Robert I., of Ilion; a brother, Philip. Ilion; two sisters, Mrs. John (Mary) Scanlon, Ilion, Mrs. Margaret Butler, of Watertown; three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted 8:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Applegate Funeral Home and 9 a.m. from the Church of Annunciation, where a Solemn High Mass of Requiem will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, West Herkimer. Calling hours are 7 to 9 tomorrow and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Monday.

Services for Robert C. Mulvey, 9 Hillside PI., were 8:30 a.m. yesterday from the Applegate Funeral Home and 9 a.m. from Annunciation Church, where a Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated. Burial was in Armory Hill Cemetery. Active bearers were: Warren Lennox, Frank LaPuma, Earl Derby, Ronald Jordon, Daniel Haslauer and Maurice Golden. Honorary bearers: Charles Lynch, Robert Baker, D. Griffith, Rockwell Dennison.

William Mulvey also graduated from Ilion High School in 1919. William Mulvey was born Oct.30, 1902 in Wilkinsberg, Pa., a son of Michael and Phoebe Roulx Mulvey. His parents moved to Ilion in 1908. He graduated from Ilion High School in 1922 with his brother, Robert. William also attended the Albany College of Pharmacy and graduated along with his brother, Robert, in 1922.

William at one time was employed by Howard Hall in the Baker Pharmacy and also worked for local druggist, George Carney. He later was manager for Liggitt's Pharmacy, both in Utica, and then the Carrol Drug Company, in Albany.

William changed careers in the 1930s. He was employed as a time study engineer with Remington Rand Shaver Division in Ilion and then as a methods and standards engineer at Remington Arms. In 1952, he was awarded a 16 year service pin by the Remington Arms. In 1955, William joined his brother Robert, at the Mulvey Pharmacy.

Below is the December 20, 1960 obituary, for William Mulvey. The article appeared in The Herkimer Evening Telegram.

William A Mulvey, 58, of 134 John St., a local pharmacist died yesterday in the Ilion hospital after a long illness. Mr. Mulvey was a partner for the past five years in the Mulvey Medical Center Pharmacy, Otsego St., with his brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mulvey.

Mr. Mulvey at one time was associated with Howard Hall in the Baker Pharmacy here and with George Carney, local drugist. He later was manager for Liggitts Pharmacy, both in Utica, and then the Carrol Drug Co., in Albany.

He had also been employed as a time study engineer with Remington Rand Shaver Division here and then as a methods and standards engineer at Remington Arms before joining his brother in the local pharmacy.

He was a communicant of the Church of Annunciation and was a member of the Kappa Psi Fraternity.

Surviving is another brother, Phillp M., Ilion; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Butler, Watertown, Mrs. John Scanlon, Ilion, several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m., Thursday from the Applegate Funeral Home and at 9 am from the Church of Annunciation where a Solemn Requiem High Mass will be celebrated, with burial in St. Agnes Cemetery in the spring.
