David Peter Whalen, age 52, of West Clark Street, Ilion, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 8, 2007. He was born June 12, 1955 in Ilion, NY, the son of the late John J. and Helen I. Bayzon Whalen, and received his education in the Ilion School System. He graduated with the IHS Class of 1974. Mr. Whalen was employed with the Ilion Central School District in the security division, and was also the supervisor of the Ilion community park. David was a member of the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion, and an avid NY Yankees fan. He enjoyed fixing and working with computers. Dave had a heart of gold, and a great sense of humor. He took pride in everything that he did. His thoughtfulness of others is reflected in the fact that Dave was an organ and tissue donor. Dave is survived by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Rodney "Skip" and Sharon Whalen of Herkimer, NY, and Patrick Whalen of Ilion; two nieces and their husbands, Robin and Dave Meszler of Herkimer, and Wendy and Michael Arner of Charlotte, NC; also several aunts and uncles. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, July 12, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion, with Fr. Anthony Barratt officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer. Friends may call Wednesday, July 11, 2007 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 100 Otsego Street, Ilion.
