![]() Bernard 'Ben' Reape - IHS 1961 - PharmacistBernard 'Ben' Reape was born, December 23, 1943, the son of the Gerald and Bernice Reape. When he was only 3 years old, Ben tragically lost his father to a fishing tragedy. Gerald Reape, along with four other fisherman, drowned in Stillwater reservoir. Their boat capsized during a thunderstorm. Gerald Reape left his mother, his wife the former Bernice Flathers, Ilion; two sons, Gerald, 7, and Bernard, 3; and one daughter, Betty Janes, 5. Ben was raised by his mother and his step-father, James F. Rolchigo. Ben graduated from Ilion High School in 1961. During summers of his college years, Ben worked for the Village of Ilion Recreation Program as swimming pool director. He also served two full years in the U.S. Navy before being discharged in 1963. He was engaged to Miss Dianne Shuhart of Herkimer in June 1966. He graduated from the Albany College of Pharmacy in 1969. Ben made his residence in Newport, New Hartford and finally in the warmth of Deland, FL.
