Mrs. Carrie Brill The funeral of Mrs. Carrie Hoefler Brill, 74, Ilion native and prominent church and club leader here, will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 from her late home, 353 West Main Street. The Rev . Ernest C. Love, Methodist pastor, will officiate at the services. Interment will be in Armory Hill cemetery. Mrs. Brill died Monday noon at her home after an illness of three weeks. She was born here Aug. 13, 1863, daughter of John and Elizabeth Ellen Hoefler. Her birthplace and childhood home was the historic Hoefler Mansion which stood on the site of the new Remington Arms Company buildings at East Main Street and Hoefler Avenue. Mr. Hoefler was superintendent of E. Remington & Sons, predecessor of the Remington Arms Company, and was one of the early Remington contractors. Mrs. Brill attended schools here and was graduated from Ilion High school in the class of 1882, and attended Wellesley, College. Her marriage to Charles Comstock Brill took place on October 29, 1889. They lived nearly 20 years in Vermont, where Mr. Brill was professor of chemistry and physics, and from 1896 to 1906, dean or Norwich University. They returned here In 1906. Mrs. Brill was active in organizations or the First Methodist Church here, of which she was a member. She also devoted much time to the Shakespeare Club, and the Travelers' Club, and was a member of the Associate Board of Ilion Hospital. Survivors besides her husband and a daughter, Miss Marion Elizabeth, here; two brothers, John, Denver, Col., and Philo, Pasadena, Cal. Two sisters and three brothers of Mrs. Brill have died in the past five years.
