THE JUNIORS

Graduating Exercises Tuesday Afternoon

On Tuesday afternoon many interested friends together with the board of Education assembled to listen to the graduating exercises of the C. senior class in the Junior department of our school. It being the first ever given in this grade much interest was shown by both teachers and scholars.

The room was handsomely decorated with ferns, potted plants and flowers. The specimens of the work in drawing which were much admired and commented upon favorably.

The exercises opened with a greeting song by six of the girls. This was succeeded by quotations which were distinctly given by different members of the class. The remainder of the program consisted of thirteen recitations, well rendered, a duet and a chorus by several of the boys.

At the close of this part of the exercises Dr. Douglass, the secretary of the Board, addressed the class. He said it was always a pleasure to him to watch children - he was interested in them, in their play, and in their work and it had offered him great pleasure to see the interest evinced by the pupils in their work to-day.

He then presented the diplomas to the class which numbers fory-one bright faithful pupils, many of them having already passes some of the preliminary Regents.

After the parting song, Harry Fake, in behalf of the senior class, presented to Miss Jones, the principal, for the junior room, the motto "Live to the Truth." This being a motto adopted by the room at her suggestion. Miss Jones thanked the class feelingly, trusting they would continue to follow the truth.

The exercises were a credit to all interested. It is to be hoped that within two years a like occurrence will mark a ore decided change --- not only graduating from the junior department, but graduating with a Preliminary Regents' Certificate.
