Ilion Class Goes Out

Graduates Receive Diplomas After Studious Years

Ilion, June 21 - The Commencement exercises of the class of 1919 were held at the high school auditorium this evening. The auditorium was decorated with daises and early summer flowers, which added to the occasion. The high school orchestra furnished music throughout the evening.

The program as presented was March, orchestra, prayer, Rev. E. D. Barnes, selection "Souvenir" Franz ... "Flight of the Birds," W. M. Rice, orchestra, "Music's ... to the Jew." Madeline Hoffman, "Employment for Returned Soldiers," Haveland Lutz: "The ... Tribute to Girlhood," Dorothy Tjeerdsma: "Sunday Moving Pictures," Ethel Thomas; chorus, "Sweet Little Women of Mine," (Bartlett), Girls' Glee Club; "America and Justice," Nellie Gilchrist, "The Forward to Farms Movement," E. Dyme Bennett; violin solo, "Concerto No. 12," ..., Rogers Whitmore, "The Growth of Prohibition," Alfred Taylor; "Education for Citizenship," Mabel Decker; "Appreciation of Art in the Schools," Helen M. Krause; chorus :Carmena" (Wilson-Root), Girls' Glee Club.

The several numbers were greatly enjoyed and the essays and orations were of merit and were presented by the members.

Superintendent of Schools Schwartz presented the members with their diplomas, using the occasion as a fitting time to congratulate the class members who are leaving the happy school days behind to enter upon the stern realities of life.

Mr. Schwartz is awarding the honors announced the valedictorian as Alfred Lindsay Taylor with an average of 94.3, and Miss Ethel Allegra Thomas as salutatorian with an average of 94.1. Miss Nellie Gilchrist had the third highest average of 92.2.

The school average of the class was 82.7 and the regents' average 82.3.
