Girl Earns Honor of Valedictorian for Ilion Senior Class

Doris Jones, With Percentage of 92.73, Heads Ten High

Reginald Gaskill with 91 is Salutatorian

Doris Jones with a rating of 92.71 percent, has been selected valedictorian of Ilion High School senior class according to the honor list of 10 students announced Monday morning. Reginald Gaskill with 91 percent is chosen as salutatorian.

The class is composed of 83 members of which 43 are girls and 40 boys. The marks are based on the work of the first half of the senior year and of the 10 names mentioned, the first six will be commencement speakers. They include Miss Jones, Mr. Gaskill, Ethel Shepard, Bernice Mackin, Luella [Luetta] Raux and Clara Fetterly.

FOUR IN HONOR LEAGUE

The standings of the other eight honor students are: Ethel Shephard, 90.42; Bernice Mackin, 89.55, Luella [Luetta] Raux, 89.34, Clara Fetterly, 88.58, Ralph Strong, 88.56, Mary Binder, 88.46, Doris Sloan, 88.15; Dorothy Tjeerdsma, 87.76.

The Ilion High School is one of the schools of the state that is enrolled as a member of the Honor League of The State of New York and the eligibility of the seniors must be 90 percent. Seniors must have 54 Regents points at the beginning of the year, 63 points at the middle of the year and at the end of the senior year, 72 points to qualify and in determining the average the school and Regent rating are given equal records.

Last year, the Ilion High School had one student eligible while this year, four of the seniors are eligible and those elected to membership are: Doris Jones, 92.73; Reginald Gaskill 91.00; Ethel Shephard, 90.42; Luella [Luetta] Raux, 90.17.

Miss Jones' average is the same as the school honors yet based on different records.

This large percentage speaks highly of the standard of Ilion High School.
