Ilion High School Holds Graduation

Diplomas, Prizes, Cups Distributed Among Class of 70

Ilion, June 26 - Students, relatives and friends filled the Capitol Theater Tuesday night at graduation exercises of Ilion High School.

The program:

Raymond overture and 1929 class song, high school orchestra, invocation, Ref. L. R. Benson, salutatory, "The Influence of business on Civilization," Florence Neale, "The Theme of Permanent Music," Jean Douglas.

Debate, "Resolved that a college education is essential to success in life," with affirmative taken by Ruth Darling, and the negative by Helen Brady. "The Theme of Modern Music," George Angell; valedictory, "Einstein and His Theory of Relativity," Donald Loefler; "Melody in F," orchestra.

At this point of the program, Superintendent of Schools E. P. Watkin extended greetings to the class of 1879. Principal J. G. Prindle, made the following award of prizes. The first prize being $10 and second prize $5.

English - First, Helen Brady; second, Donald Loefler.

Mathematics - First, George Angell; second Howard Williams.

History - First, Elizabeth Scott; second, Frederick Burkhart.

Language - First, Donald Loefler; second, George Angell

Science, First, Howard Williams; second, Frederic Ludden.

Commercial - First, Earl Pudney; second, Florence Neale. Thomas Ringwood was awarded the American Legion Auxiliary prize of $2.50.

The following were awarded prizes of $5 each: Art, Edward Christiana; music, Jean Douglass; manual training, Loren Holland; domestic science, Mary Jarvis; dramatics, Robert Ainsile.

Cups were award as follows:
Stone & Luke scholarship cup, Jack Brown, Sophomore class; Dason debating trophy, Martha Raux; Lever cup, George Jackson.

Supt. E. P. Watkin presented the diplomas to the members of the class, Benediction was pronounced by Rev. L. R. Benson.
