H. S. Graduation Shows Review of School Activities

Commencement exercises for the Ilion High School for the year 1932 - 34 will he held in the Capitol Theatre on Tuesday evening, June 26, at 8:15. The program promises to be highly entertaining. The committee has endeavored to get away as far as possible from the stereotyped commencement day exercises with which we are all so familiar, and usually so bored, and are coming out with a brand new novel and interesting program. Reserved seat tickets will be required except for the balcony.

The commencement program will be entitled, "Education in Our Changing Civilization." Names of all participants are not yet ready for announcement, as the results of the Regents examinations this week are awaited, forty-six pupils will take part.

The program will open with the entrance of the members of the class to the processional number, "Nobility," by Sir Arthur Sullivan, played by the high school orchestra. The invocation will follow.

Elizabeth Wasmer will give the salutatory, "Meeting the Needs of the High School Pupils Through the Academic Curriculum in 1934."

Tableaux dealing with Languages, English, History, Mathematics, Commercial subjects, Industrial Arts and Home Economics will follow, after which a talk will be given on "Education Through Extra-Curricular Activities."

There will follow tableaux dealing with Art, Student Government (including Senate, Classes and Home Rooms) and with the Honor Society, Sportsmanship Brotherhood, National Forensic League, Thespians and Orpheans.)

An unusual number will follow. Margaret Fay will speak on "The Art of Trumpet Playing," interspersing her descriptive talk with selections on the trumpet. A song, "Lo, God is Here," by Mueller, will be rendered the the A Capella Choir of the school.

A one-act play, "The Maid of France," will follow. In the cast will be seen Naomi Congdon as Jeanne D'Arc; Helen Bedworth as Blanche, a flower girl; Robert Wachtman, as Paul, a French poilu; Horace Hendrix, as Fred an English Tommy and Fred Schremp, as Gerald Soames, an English lieutenant.

Another feature will follow in the form of a debate on the proposition: "Resolved That Democracy Is Losing Ground to Dictatorship in the United States as a Whole." Virginia Casey will take the affirmative and Florence Singer the negative side. They were captains of the two high school debate teams which made such a fine record last winter, winning the district debate championship and competing in the national tournament at Topeka, Kansas.

Louise Plunkett, valedictorian, will speak on "Education at the Crossroads."

Prizes will be awarded by Principal J. G. Prindle, after which the class song, written by laVonne Goodale, will be sung by the class of 1934.

Diplomas wilt be presented to the graduates by Mrs. Genevieve Mack, president of the Ilion Board of Education, and Earl P. Watkin, Superintendent of Ilion schools. The exercises will close with the benediction.

Ilion schools present exceptional educational advantages to the student. The teaching staff is composed of 29 regular teachers in the high school, 30 teachers in the grades and 8 in the School of the Annunciation. Besides the regular academic subjects courses are offered in commercial subjects, industrial arts, machine shop, general shop, mechanical drawing, home economics, art, music, dramatics, public speaking and debate.
