Ilion Graduation Plans Advancing Rev. F. W. Ainslie Will Address Class in Auditorium Debate Will Be Feature The Maid of France," One-act Play, Planned Ilion - With the number of students to graduate from the Ilion High School yet unknown, plans are nearly complete for the commencement exercises to be held Tuesday morning, June 26, in the Capital Theater. Rev. F. W. Ainslie, pastor of the Baptist Church, will deliver the graduation sermon to the class in the high school auditorium, June 14, at 7:30 p.m. Louise Plunkett as valedictorian, spoke on "Education at the Cross Roads" and the class song LaVonne Goodale was sung. A solemn note was struck when the seniors repeated the Ephebic oath. A novel program has been arranged for commencement, opening with the entrance of the class members to the processional number, "Nobility," by Sir Arthur Sullivan, played by the high school orchestra. Elizabeth Wasmer will give the salutatory, "Meeting the Needs of High School Pupils Through the Academic Curriculum in 1934," and Louise Plunkett, valedictorian, will speak on "Education at the Crossroads." "The Maid of France," a one-act play, will be given, with a cast including: Naomi Congdon as Joanne D'Arc; Helen Bedworth as Blanche, a Sewer girl, Robert Wachtman, as Paul, a Frech pollu; Horace Hendrix, as Fred, an English Tommy, and Fred Schremp as Geral Soames, an English lieutenant. Margaret Fay will speak on "The Art of Trumpet playing," interspersin her descriptive talk with selections on the trumpet. Another feature will be in the form of a debate on the proposition: "Resolved, That Democracy Is Losing Ground to Dictatorship in the United States as a Whole." The two team captains of the high school debating teams which made such a fine record last winter will had the affirmative and negative sides. Diplomas will be presented by Mrs. Everett Mack, president of the Board of Education, and Earl P. Watkin, superintendent of schools.
