Ilion High School Graduation Plans Are Announced

The Rev. Paul Wagner, Presbyterian Pastor, will give the Baccalaureate Sermon June 26

Protestant clergymen will, officiate at the annual High School baccalaureate services June 26. The Rev. Paul Wagner, Presbyterian pastor will deliver the sermon, and the Presbyterian Church Choir, under the direction of Harold A. Johnson, music supervisor at the High School, will sing.

The Rev. L. R. Benson of the Episcopal Church will give the Invocation, the Rev. Earnest C. Love, Methodist pastor, will offer prayer, and the Rev. Fred W. Ainslie of the Baptist parish, will read the Scripture.

It is believed that the 1938 class will be the largest in the history of the school. To date, 126 students expect to receive their diplomas.

The yearly banquet and reunion of the Alumni will be held at the school auditorium June 29. Class night exercises are set June 24 and graduation will be held at the Capitol Theatre June 28.

Among the guests expected at the alumni meeting are H. M. Schwartz, professor of education at St. Lawrence University. Mr. Schwartz was a former superintendent of Ilion schools. Another guest will be Miss Loretta Douglas of Utica, who, for many years was high School principal. Miss Douglas was in the Class of '13.

Possibly Judge Fred Reese of Pennsylvania, former Ilion High Student may attend. Mr. Reese is a judge of the Court of Common Pleas, Carlisie, Pa. Frank D. Warren of Orange, N. J., another superintendent, may also be present.

The celebration this year marks the 50th anniversary of the Class of 1888 and the 25th anniversary of the Class of '13. The Class of '13 was the last to graduate form the Morgan School which stood on the site of the Municipal Building.

The speaker's list is incomplete but will be composed of members of the two honored classes, together with Superintendent of Schools Earl P. Watkin and principal Guy Prindle. District Attorney Carl W. Peterson will be toastmaster.

Officers of the Alumni Association in charge of the event are: President Leon Jarvis; vice-presidents, Mrs. Luella Roberts Schwartz, Albert Ross, Mrs. Esther Davis and John Powers; secretary, Albert Schneider; Chronologist, F. Russell.
