Lt. Momberger, Ilion Included in War Dead Coming Home in July 1st. Lt. William H. Momberger, son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Momberger, 12 N. Fifth Ave., Ilion, and Pfc. John Tomei. son of Sam Tomei, Albany St.. Little Falls, are among more than 5000 who lost their lives in World War II and who are being returned to America this month. The deceased veterans are being returned to the United States from Europe aboard the U. S. Army transport, "Lawrence Victory." Arrival of the vessel will be ... by the New York Port of Embarkation. Ceremonies will be held at the Port at 11 a. m. on the day of arrival. Armed forces dead originally interred in temporary military cemeteries in France, Luxembourg, and the United Kingdom are among those being brought back to this country. A total of 614 remains are being returned upon instructions of next of kin residing in New York state. The Army stated that each, next of kin would be notified in advance of the arrival of the vessel and again after arrival of the remains at the regional distribution centers. Next of kin may elect to have remains returned to the United States for burial in a private or national cemetery or may request interment in a permanent American, military cemetery overseas, or a private cemetery in a foreign country which is the homeland of the deceased or of he next of kin. Here in Ilion, the Ilion Memorial Post American Legion, and the William Hempstead Post, VPW, have been conducting military funerals for returning deceased veterans providing request for such services were made by the families.
