Ilion Bank Official Dies

ILION - Peter B. Cranney, 46, of 66 John St., an assistant treasurer of the Marine Midland Trust Co. of the Mohawk Valley, Ilion Branch, also active in fraternal and civic affairs, died today in the Mohawk Valley General Hospital, following a long illness.

Born in Ilion, Oct. 20, in 1919, son of John F. and Margaret Brazill Cranney, he married the former Ann Prindle on Oct. 4, 1941 in Ilion. Mr. Cranney was a graduate of Ilion High School and the Institute of Banking of Utica.

During World War II, be served with the Third Marine Division, stationed in the South Pacific.

Prior to entering the service in 1942, Mr. Cranney was affiliated with the Ilion Savings & Loan Assn. After his discharge in 1945, he joined the staff of the former Ilion National Bank & Trust Co., which merged with the Marine Midland Trust Co. of the Mohawk Valley.

Mr. Cranney was a member of the Church of Annunciation, its Holy Name and Nocturnal Adoration Societies, the Knights of Columbus, also the Elks Club, Community Club, Kiwanis Club, Ilion Post, American Legion, Ilion Volunteer Fire Dept., and the Shakespeare Club.

His civic affiliations included, Frankfort-Ilion Chapter, Red Cross, of which be was treasurer, also the Ilion Planning Commission and secretary of the Board of Commissioners for the General Herkimer Homestead.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Karen, at home; a sister, Mrs. Albert (Elizabeth) Bowers, Ilion; a brother, David, Little Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

Prayer services will be 6:30 a.m. Saturday from the Whiter Hendrix Funeral Home and 9 a m. from the Church of Annunciation, with a celebration of a Requiem High Mass. Burial will be m St. Agnes Cemetery, North Ilion.

Friends may call at their convenience. In lieu of flowers, friends were asked to donate to the Heart Fund.
