New Ilion School Field The above picture shows the partially completed new athletic field for the Ilion high school which Board of Election members authorized constructed several weeks ago. Considerable grading has been done by Charles Walker, local contractor, which included the removal of hundreds of ton of dirt from a side hill to the east of the field. The dirt was used for grading low spots along with considerable stones and gravel from Steele's Creek when it was dredged above the Otsego street bridge this summer. The field which is located south of the high school near the Philip street entrance to the Russell Park will be completed on a par with any in this part of the state. Not only will it provide ample play room for both football and baseball teams, but it has two means of entrance one of which is through Weber Ave., and the other at Philip street. At the present time the field is partially graded and covered with top soil which was scrapped from the field before it was graded. School officials state that the field will not be used for play this year, but is expected to be put in use for the fall of 1941. Created and maintained by Aileen Carney Sweeney - Class of 1974
