Fifth Kennedy Enters Service of Country

When Helen Kennedy, 22 West River St. reported recently at Hunter College. New York City, for her initial training as a WAVE, she was the fifth of the six children of Leo J. Kennedy to enter the service of her country. To the best of our knowledge, Miss Kennedy is also the first Ilion girl to enter this branch of the service. She is in the Navy now, where her brother Bob is servomg om a a submarine crew.

A sister, Margaret, is a registered nurse with the Army, stationed at Gulfport, Miss. Her brother Joseph, now in San Antonio, Texas, has a lieutenant's commission, and another brother, William, is also in Texas training as a pilot with the Army Air Force. The only brother not in service is married and the father of two children.

Miss Kennedy graduated from Ilion high school in 1941 and has been employed in a business office since that time. Her mother died shortly after her birth and the family of Leo Kennedy today is proof of his courage and efforts.
