Ilion Football Coach resigns

George Finnegan, football coach and social studies teacher in Ilion High School, confirmed his resignation from the position effective at the close of the present term, early this week.

In announcing his resignation, Finnegan stated that he had submitted his written resignation to Dr. E. P. Watkins, superintendent of schools, last Thursday.

The football coach took issue with a news story appearing in valley papers last week following a meeting of the Board of Education.

The story referred to school trustees deciding to seek a legal opinion form the State Education Departed regarding appointment of teachers already on tenure. No names were publicly mentioned by school officials.

According to reports received at this office, Coach Finnegan has accepted a position at Binghamton Central School.
