Bruska to Attend Block I Dinner at Ilion Tonight Ilion - Highlight for Ilion High School athletes at tonight's Block I banquet in the Ilion Elks Club will be the presence of Walter G. Bruska, Mohawk, an outstanding end on Cornell University's Ivy League championship football teams of 1948 and 1949. A graduate of Mohawk High School, Bruska was the Big Red's top pass receiver last season. gaining 289 yards on 14 completions, one of which gave Cornell its last minute win over the University of Pennsylvania. Graduated in February by the College of Agriculture, the Mohawk man recently was appointed Cornell end coach, succeeding Alva E. Kelley Jr., main speaker here to-night. Kelley is now an assistant to Herman Hickman, coach of football at Yale University. Will Get Statuettes Bruska's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George T. Bruska, Henry St., Mohawk, are expected to attend the Block I banquet, being sponsored by the Ilion Varsity Club in honor of 43 high school athletes who have earned letters in football, basketball, baseball or track during the current academic year. Also attending as guests will be cheerleaders and members of the high school coaching staff. Each athlete will receive a statuette depicting the sport in which he participated. The Varsity Club for many years has feted Ilion High School football teams, but tonight's dinner marks the first time the organization of sports boosters has attempted to honor letter winners in all four major sports. Motion Pictures The banquet program will include motion pictures of the 1949 Cornell grid team in action as well as Kelley's talk and presentation, of the athletic awards. Sale of tickets to the public will continue up to 6:30 tonight, the time of the banquet, according to Arvon Jones, Varsity Club secretary. Jones announced last night that the following Ilion organizations and individuals have contributed to the banquet cost: Ilion High School Parent-Teacher Association, Ilion American Legion Post and Auxiliary, Ilion Business and Professional Association, Kenneth Edgett, Community Club, Police Judge Thomas A. Morris, C. W. Carpenter Volunteer Hose Company No. 1, Ilion Elks, Ilion Masons and OES, Ilion Fish and Game Club, Beethoven Maennerchor, Volunteer Police Association, Ilion Knights of Columbus and the Order of Amaranth.
