Prindle, Watkin Speak To Graduates at Last Assembly

Martin Burns, 4 Main Street, an Ilion High School junior, this Thursday afternoon presented the Frank M. Lyons Memorial Trophy as the first Ilion student to win the award.

The presentation was made at the final assembly of the students afternoon at 3. Two other important awards were made at the same assembly. They are:

The Rocky Cramer Trophy, won by Charles Squire, East Street and the Varsity Club "Unsung Hero" award to John Wedemeyer, 185 West Street.

The presentations were made by J. G. Prindle, Principal. The Frank M. Lyons Memorial Trophy was given by the parents of Frank, an Ilion junior who died last December. The award was based on good Fellowship and was won by Martin Burns virtually unanimously. It will be awarded to a senior in the future but was given to a junior this time becuase Lyons was a member of that class.

The Rocky Cramer Award, also in memory of an outstanding Ilion athlete of a few years ago, is based on outstanding ability in physical education work and the winner must be a senior have won a varsity letter and participated in intramural sports. Squire was a member of this year's tract team, and is a senior.

The winner of the Varsity Club Trophy, John Wedemeyer, was selected by the Varsity Club president, the principal and physical education director from an eligible list of ten selected by squad members in the four varsity sports. Wedemeyer is also a senior.

The assembly heard talks by Earl P. Watkin, superintendent of schools and Mr. Prindle, both of whom addressed their remarks to the 1950 serniors, attending their last school assembly.
