Larry Murphy Wins Painful Battle; Returns Home A blonde haired kid left the Ilion Hospital yesterday and as he went down the stairs and out the door the admiring glances of nurses and attendants followed him. The kid is high school junior Larry Murphy and he's been in the hospital since the Ilion-Herkimer football game two weeks ago Saturday with severe burns suffered on that wild and wooly afternoon when Murph helped the Bombers to a thrilling upset win over the Herkimer team. The latest information is that the burns were caused by an acid formed by a combination of the lime used to mark the field and a salt solution spread on the field before the game in an attempt to better the snow conditions somewhat. Murph played the entire game that afternoon, and when it was over those of us in the locker room gasped when he began to peel off his gear. His tender skin was horribly marred (but we didn't know what at that time) and he was pretty miserable. The doctor had him hospitalized that night and he's been there ever since and in severe pain. Superintendent Bosquet and all the doctors, nurses, and fellow patients had nothing but admiration fof the blonde-haired lad who took it all in a cheerful and friendly manner. Murph will probably be back in school with the gang in a few days, but come what may, the mark of a man is upon this courageous kid.
