Services Set for Ilion Youth

ILION - The body of Richard E. Lewis, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Laura Small Lewis, 218 S. 4th Ave., arrived here today from Memphis, Tenn., where he was fatally injured Sunday.

Lewis, who graduated from Ilion High School in June, 1954, and enlisted in the Navy last September, died of a brain hemorrhage attributed by Naval doctors to having failed to complete a half flip in a dive into a swimming pool at Memphis from a ten foot board Sunday night, landing on his stomach.

He had been attending an electronic school at the Memphis Naval Base. Services will be held at 10:30 Saturday from the Applegate Funeral Home. Rev. R. Louis Somers, rector of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, officiating. Interment will be in Cedarville Cemetery.
