4 from Ilion Are Selected by 6 Coaches

Ilion — Five Mohawk Valley high school football players were named yesterday on the annual Iroquois League All Star gridiron team.

Ilion High School, league champion for the second consecutive year, placed four men on the mythical team while Mohawk landed one. Herkimer and Little Falls had no players on the first eleven but placed several on the second team and on the honorable mention list. The allstar team is selected by the coaches of the six-team league.

Named from Ilion on the all-star first team were Wayne Murphy, veteran Golden Bomber quarterback and three time selection for the all-star team; Jackie Noll, speedy Ilion right halfback; Robert Smithson, 232-pound tackle, and Bill Hoffman, veteran Bomber guard.

Named from Mohawk was Herb Brown, outstanding end for the last two years.

Other members of the first eleven are: Ends, Fred Miers, Norwich; tackles, Ronald Brazier, Oneonta guards, Jim (Chip) Wright, Oneonta; center. John Colyer, Oneonta; halfback, Vince Caravaglio, Norwich, and fullback, Charles Sweeney, Oneonta.

Ends, Ronald Gage, Herkimer, and John Pawlowski, Little Falls tackles, William Fullen, Uion, and Bob DiNoto, Norwich; guards, Ted Along, Norwich, and Bob Cinquanta, Little Fails; center, Norman Meagley, Norwich backs, Pat Quinn, Norwich; Fran Macrin, Herkimer, Ronnie Hart, Ilion and Bruce Bouton, Oneonta (tied) and Mannie Laura, Ilion.
