Michael J. List Accident

Ilion attorney, Miss Mary Pararites. District Attorney Albert W. Schneider was not in court.

The Ilion teen-ager was arrested early Sunday morning following a one-car accident in which another local youth was seriously injured.

Michael J. List, 19, of 227 Second St., is on the critical list at Ilion Hospital. Officials said today his condition is unchanged.

He is reportedly suffering from a severe spinal injury.

According to Ilion police, Frazier and another car operated by a local youth, were "drag" racing shortly before 3 a.m., Sunday through the Ilion Gorge and village streets.

The other car evidently slowed down or stopped when the driver saw the police car pursuing the Frazier vehicle on John St., police said.

Police said Frazier continued at excessive speed down John St., turned off on Third St., went through a red light at the corner of Third and West Sts., proceeded to W. Main St., where he turned and continued towards Frankfort.

Patrolman Earl Matteson, arresting officer, reported Frazier failed to negotiate the sharp left curve at Bridge and W. Main Sts., just outside village limits, and struck a telephone pole, snapping it in two. Frazier escaped injury.

Matteson charged Frazier with excessive speed, clocked at 70 miles an hour, passing a red light, driving while his license was suspended, using improper plates and having no insurance.

Police claim Frazier said he owned the car. He had transferred commercial license plates from his father's pick-up truck to the car, police said.
