ILION --- Claire E. Gilbert and Norma "Betty" Alvis will be valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, in the June graduating class at Ilion High School. Miss Gilbert has an average of 95.366, Miss Alvis, 94.247. Miss Gilbert is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernell Gilbert, 14 Spring St. formerly of Herkimer. She is the only Ilion student named to receive a state Regents scholarship this year, and is also a finalist for the National Honor Society. She plans to study political science at Wellesley. Miss Gilbert has been named to receive the Bausch & Lomb science award at commencement. She is an accompanist for the Orpheus and Phoenix Choirs and the Eleven Belles. Copy editor for the Quill, Miss Gilbert is assistant managing editor of the Mirror and vice president of the National Honor Society. Miss Alvis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Alvis, 46 Armory St., did not take the Regents scholarship exam because she plans to attend Agnes Scott College where she will major in history. She is editor of the Quill, on the Mirror staff and is a member of the National Honor Society. Orpheus Choir and has a role in the senior play. She is also scholarship representative for Beta Chi.
