Ilion High Informative - By Regina Stefanishyn ILION - Final elections for Student Council officers were held yesterday. Nominees for president were Thomas Deyle and Fay Edwards; for vice president, Donald Keddell and Paul Morris; for secretary, Diane Withington and Susan Getman; for treasurer, Mary Pat Kerr and Susan Wood. The results of these elections will be announced tonight at the talent show. Last Thursday on Teacher's recognition Day, the seniors took over the school. All the seniors found the afternoon enjoyable, and the teachers found it interesting to see how the students would run the class if they were teachers. The talent show sponsored by the Student Courcil will be presented in the auditorium at 8 tonight. Admission is $.25 for students and $.50 for adults. Prizes of $5, $3, and $2 will be awarded in the junior high and senior high divisions. Be sure to come and see the fine talent and to find out who next year's Student Council officers will be. Linda Braybrook was appointed editor of the 1963 Mirror staff. Dennis Jones will be assistant editor. This staff has already started working on the 1963 yearbook. The 1962 yearbook has now been sent to press. Harold Shelley, 1962 salutatorian, was awarded an Emmett Blakeney Gleason scholarship by the University of Rochester. The $1,200 grant will cover four years of study. Harold has also won a New York State Regents Scholarship and qualifies for a New York State Scholar Incentive Award. Tickets for the junior prom the "Twinkling Twenties" went on sale last Thursday. Dancing will be from 4 to 1 and the music will be played by the Tophatters. Admission is $2.75 per couple. Last Friday, the Ilion track team beat Norwich 88-29. On Wednesday, May 16, they beat Mohawk 98-17. Last night they played Frankfort. For results see the sports page. Each one of these wins gives us more points toward the all-sports trophy. Track and baseball will be the deciding factors in whether we can keep our lead and win this trophy. The entire student body would like to wish both teams lots of luck in their coming games. We'll all be behind you all the way! On Friday, May 11, Ilion's baseball team snapped a two game losing streak by defeating Herkimer 6-3. Sam Geragi struck out 3, walked two, and gave up 5 hits while going the distance for the winners. On Wednesday, May 16, Little Falls surprised the baseball world by winning two consecutive baseball games. A 4-3 victory over Ilion. Gordie Mac Gammon went the distance for Little Falls to win and Ilion's Edward Woodrick took the loss. In both games Douglas Bernard was the key hitter for Ilion. He reached base four times against Herkimer and belted a run-scoring double and knocked in 2 of Ilion's three runs against Little Falls.
