Ilion High Informative - By Regina Stefanishyn ILION- Ilion's Golden Bombers baseball team came through with the chips down as they defeated Herkimer 2-0 on June 1, in Herkimer to clinch the All-Sports Trophy for Ilion. Under the lights at Harmon Field, the Gold and Brown with Edward Woodrick on the mound broke loose in the fourth frame. A single by Robert Day, a walk to Douglas Bernard, and a base hit by John Brewer produced the first run of the ball game. The second Ilion run came in the seventh when Sam Geragi doubled to center, advanced to third on a sacrifice, and scored on a single by pitcher, Edward Woodrick. The last hope for the home team saw Jerry Drabent triple with one away. However, Marconi fanned and Jerry Waiczak bounced to Woodrick who threw to Raymond Wardle at first to end the contest. The Ilion fans swarmed onto the field, mobbing all the ballplayers, and a large coke was hurriedly consumed at the pitcher's mound. Thus Ilion added enough points to their total to clinch the AllSports Trophy, the first for Ilion since 1958. Throughout the year, surprisingly, it was our rival, Herkimer, who was continually beaten by the Bombers. Ilion defeated Herkimer in football, once in basketball, once in the basketball sectionals, winter sports, track, and twice in baseball. The Senior National Honor Society held a tag day yesterday in order to raise money for an Honor Society Scholarship. Yesterday was "Senior Dress Down Day." On this day, the seniors are permitted to wear any type of clothing that they wish. On Monday, the Senior Class Picnic will be held at Gilbert Lake, weather permitting. All the seniors are looking forward to a day off from school and their last big "get-together" before graduation. On Wednesday, "Senior Dress Up Day" will be held. On this day, each senior dresses in his best attire. Also on Wednesday, the seniors will be honored at an assembly held especially for them. At this assembly, the senior class will present the school with a gift and certain sports awards will be distributed. So as you can see, the school year is drawing to a close. Above all who realize this, are the seniors. In approximately three weeks, the seniors will be graduating from high-school and will begin a whole new life. Now the halls ring with these students' laughter and conversation of "Dress-Up Day," the senior picnic, and the assembly. Soon, however, the present tense will be turned into the past.
