Athletic Awards Given At Ilion High Assembly

ILION - The Lever Cup given the "outstanding athlete of the senior class" at Ilion Central School went to Jack Brewer at the annual senior assembly yesterday afternoon in the school gym.

Joseph Sorge, athletic director, made the presentation of the cup that will remain in the school's trophy case. It first was awarded in 1924.

Brewer earned points in football, basketball and baseball.

Stanley Kozenewski received the Leo Golicki Trophy for competitive sports and the Varsity Club's "Unsung Hero" trophy was presented to William Kelly. a football player.

Brewer also received the Francis Murray Memorial Basketball Trophy, first presented in 1959 to the senior athlete who contributed the most to basketball.

The Rocky Cramer award presented for leadership in all physical education activities went to Richard Adams.

Dexter Smith received the Richard Lewis wrestling trophy for outstanding contribution to the sport.

On receiving the Frank Lyons Memorial trophy, Richard Adams was cited for "good fellowship and cooperation."

The Future Teachers of America award, a $10 check, went to Sharon Hoerner for being the outstanding senior member of the club. Patricia Hoffman, a club member, made the presentation. The senior girl athletic award went to Nancy Burdick while Elaine Volo received the Priscilla Burnham Trophy for the outstanding girl athlete of the year.

A new trophy was presented to the school by William Smith, a member of the class of 1946 in memory of James Allston. This will go each year to the senior boy contributing the most to the track team.

Terrance McGrath received it this year from Track Coach Myron Bouck.

A silver tea set presented by Class President Michael McCormick was accepted by School Supt. George Purple on behalf of the school.

Copies of the 1962 issue of the school yearbook, "The Mirror," were presented to the board of education by Harold Shelley and Dana Nelson, co-editors.

Making presentations were Mr. Sorge, Principal Leo Sammon, Coach Victor Orthman; Miss Suzanne Van Auken, girls' physical education instructor, Coach Bouck.
