Campaign Opens For Students

ILION - Ilion High School students this week and next will be hearing campaign speeches of their own as two parties - Brown and Gold - vie for votes to select four senior Student Council officers.

On Friday, each party will hold a primary with three candidates in each for president, three for vice president, three for secretary and three for treasurer.

Election itself will be held May 12, with one nominee for each position in the Brown Party and one for each job in the Gold Party seeking office.

Juniors are seeking the offices of president and treasurer, sophomores the post of vice president and freshmen the job of secretary.

Voting machines will be used just as their parents do in a village, state and national election.

The Village of Ilion loaned the school some old books last week for registration of students. Each pupil wishing to vote in the primary had to declare for either the Brown or the Gold Party.

Registration took place last Friday, the juniors on the third floor, sophomores on the second floor and freshmen on the first floor.

On Thursday, May 11, an assembly for all students will hear candidates give their qualifications. Party leaders are expected to put on skits to help promote their candidates.

Candidates also are having an opportunity to speak over the school's public address system.

Primary candidates are:

Brown Party - President: Ray Wardle, Roger Fortuna, Dick Adams;
Vice President: Mary Pat Kerr, Jim Willey, Wesley Lints;
Secretary: Cheryl Miller, Don Keddell, Tony Maneen;
Treasurer: Terry McGrath, Elaine Volo, Regina Slefanishyn.

Gold Party President: Linda Vernooy, Jack Brewer, Stan Kozenewski;
Vice President: Linda Braybrook, Bob Haneka, Tom Deyle;
Secretary: Leslie DpReus, Steve Getman, Nancy Frosch;
Treasurer: Jill Urtz, Mike McCormack, Dana Nelson.
