'For Every Problem, There's An Answer', Ilion Graduates Told

ILION - Commencement exercises of Ilion High School were held at 2 p.m. yesterday at Capitol Theatre, with 122 graduates receiving diplomas and many of them special awards.

Dr. Cleo Dawson, Ph. D., psychologist and lecturer, of Lexington, Ky., gave the address, on the topic "For Every Problem There's an Answer."

The first scholarship went to Miss Barbara Higler, of Herkimer, and last year's to Miss Joanne Waldron, of Little Falls.

Dr. Dawson said there are four basic emotions - fear, rage, wonder and sex. They are "like a great water main going into a city," she said. "The secret of living to 125 years old is to keep the pipes open."

"The only time you have is now," she added, urging graduates to place reliance on the spiritual. "The past is done, the future is coming and God is the only one who knows the answer."

Ilion High School orchestra, under direction of John F. Turner, played, Neil C. Schleicher, vocal instructor led the "Alma Mater," and the Rev. Arthur L. Lacy, First Baptist Church pastor, gave invocation, the Rev. Gregory J. Mulhall, Church of Annunciation Pastor, the benediction.

Laura Ellen Mason, salutatorian, spoke on "Let's Think Creatively," Fay Morley Edwards, valedictorian, addressed classmates on "We Are Prepared."
