Ilion High Informative - By "Spook" Preischs

Ilion High has been quite active this past week, even though the students are only having half-day sessions. The pupils seem to enjoy the shorter periods because maybe their marks have seemed to rise this past week. All the students are on their own even more so now than before because of the shorter sessions and the closing of the year being near exams. The students realize what they have to do, and they are taking it in their stride.

Most of the news in this issue is about sports because it seems that sports have dominated the scene at Ilion High. The baseball team being 4-2 in an overall season thus far and 2-1 in Iroquois play are doing their best. Last week, Ilion hosted Clinton defeating them 2-1 with Sam Geragi pitching, having a 1-1 record.

This past Monday Ilion defeated its visitors, Little Falls, 11-1 in league play. Ed Woodrick led his team through this game having a pitching record of 2-0. Under Dave Esford's pitching being 1-0, Ilion whipped Norwich 10-0 this last Thursday.

Ilion's golf team won their first meet at Twin Ponds by defeating their hosts, New Hartford, by a score of 10-3. For Ilion, Ted Dack had low score.

I.H.S. received their first trophy in track since the start of the track season began in April by coming in first in Section III Class B relays held at Ilion. The first meet, held May 2 Ilion being host, defeated Little Falls 104-9 Ilion came in first in every event. This year's trade team seems to be very strong this year as they hope to capture the Iroquois title.

The Orpheus choir had a contest at New Hartford yesterday. Since the music room is the library now, the choir has its rehearsals at the Presbyterian Church.

The Concert band and the Cadet band had a little difficulty trying to arrange schedules for the students concerned, but finally met under some rearranging.

A.G.A.A. meeting was held 7 p.m. Wednesday. The G.A.C. meeting will be held this Monday at 12:15 p.m. right after the senior high lets out.

Last Thursday all girls who were interested in becoming cheerleaders met in the Boys gym. There were quite a few interested.

An Economics Conference was held May 3. The girls left about 8:30 during second period. They were dressed up, and they brought along pens and note books.

The past week at Ilion has been of the great fire disaster and imagine most students will never forget. The school sessions seem to be running smoother as most of the problems have been ironed out, but there are some still remaining.
