Ilion High Informative - By Suzanne Backman

Ilion High has been buzzing with excitement over the opening of basketball season. The Golden Bombers faced Proctor in the first game of the doubleheader today. Mohawk met Utica Free Academy in the second game. Ilion's first home game was last night against the Purple Tornadoes of Norwich. Ilion's varsity has been practicing for the past month for the coming 18-game season under Coach Sorge.

This year's team includes eight seniors and seven juniors.

On Friday, Nov. 20, the Girls Athletic Council held a dance to honor the varsity and junior varsity football players, the cross-country runners and the cheerleaders. Joe Callahan was crowned varsity king. Tom Moreau was junior varsity king, and Jack Sweeney was crowned cross-country king.

The Senior National Honor Society held its annual book fair on Nov. 19, 20, and 21. According to chairman Kathy Hoffman, over 1,100 books were available to order or purchase. Proceeds of this fair will be used for the Honor Society scholarship, which is awarded each June to a graduating member of the society who will not receive any other aid.

At a meeting Nov. 16 of the Future Teachers of America, the girls volunteered to help both the elementary and junior high teachers. Peg Getman and Marge Slocum will schedule those working with elementary teachers while Anne Kelly and Darlene Millspaugh will schedule those helping the junior high teachers.

Ilion's representatives to the All-Country Chorus to be held in January in West Canada were chosen last week. Those chosen are Pat Trevor and Suzanne Backman, first sopranos; Mary Carney and Sharon Chambers, second sopranos; Marsha Davidson and Judy Gray, first altos: Pat Allen and Kathy Hoffman, second altos; John Bullis and John Peterson, tenors; Jim Patrei and Jack Miller, baritones; and Wayne Gray and Ken Wood, basses.

Imaginations have been working full-force in the senior class to prepare decorations for the senior ball, "Frosted Fantasy," to be presented on Dec. 19. Karen Custer, decorations committee co-chairman, announced the selection of chairmen for the throne, entrance, and centerpiece committees.

Chairman of the throne committee is Eileen Taylor, with Jana Danforth and Francis Canning assisting. Judy Gray is chairman of the centerpiece committee, aided by Annette Rota, Joe Collea, Carol Pozniak, and Diane Bottini. Chairman of the entrance committee is Suzanne Backman, assisted by Gale Wells, Melody Cagwin, Sue Bracken, Helen Coons, Kay Humphrey, Cynthia Cramer, and Linda Fischer.
