Ilion High Informative - By Suzanne Backman On Sunday, March 14, Ilion High's gymnasium will be transformed into a Roman dining hall. The Latin Club will hold its annual dinner commemorating the death of Julius Caesar on the Ides of March — March 15. Dressed in the traditional togas and served by first year Latin students, the second, third, and fourth year scholars will feast and be entertained in the spirit of ancient Rome. Included in the program will be a play written, casted, and presented by the fourth year "sapientes." The affairs, headed by Bill Cornell and Rick Albin, will begin at 5 p.m. The Music Department of I.H.S. presented its annual winter concert on Thursday, March 11, at 8 p.m. in the school gymnasium. The program was led by the Cadet Band which performed six numbers. The Clarinet Choir, including William Miles, Ron Parshall, Harold Stone, Jayne Maxson, Francis Plano, Kathy Stark, Betsy Feuerstein, and Marianne Whitney presented "Song and Dance" by McKay. The concert band performed excerpts from Wagner's "Die Meistersinger"; Frescojaldi's "Toccata"; "Ode" by Hermann; "Charter Oak" by Osterling; Peterson's "Evening in Rio"; and "Poor Wayfaring Stranger". The bands were directed by Richard Ingraham. Under the direction of Mrs. Jasmine Poplaski, the Belles sang "Till there was You," "This Nearly Was Mine," and "My Favorite Things." The Boy's Quartet offered "Deed I Do," "Mandy Lee," and "Coney Island Baby." Final playoffs in the Central New York Hockey League were held on Wednesday evening. Ilion lost the game, held in the Clinton Arena, to Clinton. On Tuesday evening, the Ilion Golden Bombers dropped their sectional basketball game to Proctor, 71-60. Proctor's Panthers, led by Dave Cash, outstepped Ilion's team, paced by Boots Day and Bob DeMartine.
