Ilion Central high school graduated a class of 180 seniors Sunday afternoon at Burton T. Seymour auditorium. Valedictory was given by Patrice Ellyn Cacciatore and the salutatory by Daniel Driscall O'Brien. Scholarships were presented by Supt. James H. Dunn and diplomas by Alan Winkle, president of the board of education, Supt. Dunn and Leo J. Sammon Jr., principal. The Rev. George J. Mulhall of Annunciation church offered the invocation and the Rev. Charles S. Williams of the United Methodist church pronounced the benediction. Class officers for 1970 were David Grieco, president; Janice Staring, vice president; Janice Fischer, treasurer; and Benita Seaman, secretary. Top 10 scholars were Patrice Cacciatore, Daniel O'Brien, Stephen Applegate, John Carter, Margaret Manion, Mary Ann Hughes, Jeanne Williams, Patrice Casciere, Deborah Long and Daniel Jaquish. Regents Scholarships Regents scholarship winners included, Stephen Applegate, John Carter, Patricia Casciere, Judith Crocker, David Cuatt, Ronald DeCarr, Ronald Edick, Stephen Gresse, Mary Ann Hughes, Daniel Jaquish, Debora Long, Margaret Manion, Gary Miller, Stephen Mitchell, Timothy Murphy, Dean Rathbun, Suzanne Southwick. National Merit scholarship letters of commendation went to Stephen Applegate, John Carter, Patricia Casciere, Judith Crocker and Margaret Manion. Special recognition was paid to Mrs. Ann DeReus, who has been in the Ilion school system since 1959 and is retiring as head of the language department: Mrs. Leila Russell, who has served more than 25 years as school nurse: and James Dopp, more than 25 years as a science teacher and driver education instructor. Scholarships Presented Scholarships presented at commencement exercises Sunday: Senior Honor Society, $35, to Susan Sheffield. Earl Parry Watkin Scholarship (given by Ilion Teachers Assn.) to person entering teaching profession, a grant of $200 for four years, total of $800, to Mary Ann Bonvino. I. Clark Seamans scholarship, for one year to person entering either Syracuse U. or Utica College, $300, to Debra Pierce. Clayton Memorial scholarship (presented by family of Floyd and Emma Clayton), to person who is proficient in math and science, $200 for one year, to Patrice Cacciatore. Beta Chi Rho nursing scholarship, to student entering nurse's training, $100, to lee John Bouton. Varsity Club scholarship given in memory of Richard N. Adams, class of '62, to graduate who will pursue course in physical education or general education, $100, to Peter Keddell. Burton T. Seymour Memorial scholarship, new this year and given by Ilion Fire Fighters, $100, to Stephen Gressel. Ilion Jaycee – Jayncee scholarship, $100 in memory of Mrs. Sarah Dacquino Simmonette and children, to Benita Seaman. Ilion Savings & Loan scholarship, $100 to student who has shown interest, enthusiasm, aptitude and ability to achieve in the business field, to Karen Colburn. Award to Salvagio Daniel M. Stone Memorial scholarship, presented by the family to a student who has shown fine citizenship and service in both school and community, $50 to Santo Salvaggio. Community College scholarship, to member of senior class who will be attending a two-year community college, presented by Mr. and Mrs. George E. Anderson, $50, to Kathleen Gogol. PTO scholarship presented to member of senior class who has been accepted by an accredited four - year institution and plans to be a teacher, $100, to Susan Scram. AAUW scholarship, $250, to Susan Scram. Hoard Memorial Trust Fund, scholarship fund set up to assist students who are going to college and award study grants of varying amounts. Hoard Grants were to David Williams, Mary Ann Bonvino, Lee John Bouten and Lara Kinney.
