To Philippines As AFS Student ILION - Robert Keddell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Keddell. 100 First St., has been chosen by the American Field Service to study as a foreign exchange student in the Philippines. A junior at Ilion High School, Keddell is the second Ilion youth to be selected this year. The other is Stephen Applegate, son of Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Applegate, of 320 Otsego St., who will study in The Republic of South Africa. Joseph Albei president of the local chapter, American Field Service, said this is the first time in Ilion High School history that two students have been chosen in the same season. Keddell will leave June 12 for Pasig, Rizal Province, Philippines where he will be living with Mr. and Mrs. Domingo Legaspi and their nine children until August. Legaspi, is president of the credit union in Pasig working for the government. Keddell, 17, will begin his study of Philippine culture on July 8. Recently chosen ais Empire Boys State Delegate, sponsored by the American Legion, Keddell is president of the Junior class and Latin club. He participates in cross-country, track, and basketball and is member of the Varsity Club. He has two brothers, Donald, 24 and David 15, and two sisters, Janet, 20. and Joan, 10. Applegate will leave June 22, for study in Christian Brothers College to Bloemfontein, capital of Grange Free State, Republic of South Africa. Mrs. Dorothy Warner heads the Americans Abroad Committee which was responsible for selections to the American Field Service. She and the committee began work on applications last September to make the selections which were recommended by the Ilion Chapter and, later approved by the AFS in New York City.
