Ilion Pupils Get Awards

 

ILION - Kathleen Morris, valedictorian of the 1974 graduating class of Ilion High School, was presented the Earl Parry Watkin Memorial prize of $25 during the annual Senior Assembly last week at the high school.

Her other awards included:
History, four-year award, the Cornelia Nagle Memorial Prize, given by Mrs. Abram Zoller, $5;
Priscilla Burnham Memorial Prize, $10, given by Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Gilmartin for outstanding work in piano;
St. Augustine's Guild, $25, to the girl who exemplifies high moral character, in memory of Mrs Kathleen Withington;
Loretta 0. Douglas award, given by the Ilion Alumni Association for outstanding work in the field of English, $50.

Peggy Nile received the school prize of $20 for Salutatorian. She also received the
4-year French award of $10;
four-year math award;
a savings bond given by Marine Midland Bank;
first prize, Math-Science award, $10;
Rensselaer Math & Science Award,
the John Guy Prindle Memorial Prize in Science, $10.

Heidi Merritt received the Award for Outstanding work in Vocal Music, $10, given in memory of Albert W. DeVere by his family;
Music Award, $25, given to member of the Senior Class who has done outstanding work in the music program and who is going to pursue a future career in music, given by the Ilion High Music Department;
Speech Arts School prize, $10.

Cynthia Davidson received the 12th year American History award of $5 given by the Mohawk Valley Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and
second prize of $10 for eight units of mathematics and science.

Karen Gollegly received the $10 American History award for outstanding achievement, interest and enthusiasm in the history program, given by Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Applegate in memory of Mrs. Kathleen Withington. She also received the
Barbara Durant Memorial Award, of a plaque and bond, given by the Ilion Jaycees and community service.

Karen Storne received the $10 four-year Spanish award and
the $25 English term per prize, given by the Ilion Historical Club to a person other than the valedictorian or salutatorian.

David Whalen received the VFW Auxiliary prize of $10 for outstanding progress through his school career, and the
$10 English award for progress and good citizenship, given by Mr. and Mrs. John Gird in honor of Mrs. Elizabeth Marsten, retired English teacher.

The office practice and typing award of $25, given by the Business and Professional Women's Club, went to Denise Bernier.

Monica Block received a medal from the Powellson Institute for proficiency in secretarial practice, and a
$25 award for proficiency from the Business and Professional Women's Club.

The Police Benevolent Association Award of $10 to a boy who has made progress in his school career through individual effort and perseverance went to Kevin Bluett.

The $10 Women of the Moose prize for nurses training went to Michele Boucher.

Ralph Bouton, received the VFW prize of $10 for progress during his school career.

Aileen Carney received the World History 10th year award of $5, given by Miss Barbara Schwartz in memory of her mother, Ms. Anna Schwartz.

Debra Chalmers received the $10 Police Benevolent Association award to a girl who has made progress through her school career through individual effort and perseverance.

The Zonta Club of Herkimer prize of $10 for the girl who has shown the most growth in school service and citizenship went to Deborah Conkling.

Catherine DeLong received the $10 clerical award, given by school district clerical workers.

John Forbes received the $20 Donald C. Hart Memorial Award, given by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hart.

The homemaking three year award of $10 went to Carolyn Geiss.

Lyndon Hardy received the $10 VFW prize for progress during his school, career.

Ellen Jones received the Mid-York Racom Club's $25 special service award for service to the school.

The three-year art award of $10 went to Timothy Lee.

Eric Leskovec received second prize of $5 for the John Guy Prindle Memorial prize in science, and the Bausch and Lomb science award.

Paul March received the $25 Ilion Fish and Game Club award to the senior planning to further his education in conservation.

The VFW Auxiliary prize of $10 for progress went to Patricia Rende.

Janet Robinson received the $20 publications award given by the Mirror staff in memory of Linda Braybrook, class of 1963.

Linda Service received the $30 Burton T. Seymour memorial prize for service.

Cathleen Springer received the $10 VFW prize for progress.

Lawrence Thibault received the $10 mechanical drawing prize.

Robert Vayo received the $10 citizenship prize given by the Mohawk Valley Lodge of B'nai B'rith.

The Industrial Arts and Vocational machine shop award for three years, of $10, went to Daniel Waterbury.

Kim Wengert received the $10 VFW prize for progress.

Special Key Club service awards of $25 each went to Phillip Anderson, Patrick Waite, Ralph Bouton and William Hughes.
