Ilion Youths To Boys State ILION - Seven high school junior boys will represent Ilion at the 1973 session of the New York American Legion Boys State, Commander Frank Deyle of the Ilion Memorial Post Number 920, announced today. Selected to participate in this annual civics workshop sponsored by the New York American Legion are: Philip James Anderson, son of Dr. & Mrs. James Anderson. 94 Brook Street, Robert W. Vayo, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Vayo, 46 Marshall Avenue, John Lawrence Monohan, son of Mr. & Mrs. John Monohan, 25 Philip Street, Robert McCann, son of Mrs. Ann McCann, 77 West Clark Street, Eric Bernard Leskovec, son of Mr. & Mrs. Frank E. Leskovec, 186 John Street, Kevin Francis Sorge, son of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Sorge, Upper Otsego Street, James E. Thomas, son of Mr. & Mrs. Donald R. Thomas, 155 South Fourth Ave. The 1973 sessions of the New York American Legion Boys State will be in session from June 24 to June 30,1973, at the State University of New York Agricultural and Technical College, in Morrisville, Commander Frank Deyle said. There will be 50 seperate Boys States conducted this summer for youths who have just completed their junior year of high school to study the organization, operation, and political processes of state, county, and municipal government. The boys from Ilion will participate in the organization of political parties, campaigns, elections, and enactment and enforcement of their own laws within a mythical 51st State. From each Boys State, two outstanding young men will be chosen to attend the 28th annual American Legion Boys Nation, July 19-26, in Washington, D.C. "At Boys State," Commander Deyle explained, "the boys from Ilion will have the opportunity to learn more about the functions of government. Also, they will get a better idea of the imprtance of each good citizen in discharging basic citizenship responsibilities. They will soon discover how the quality of government is related directly to the active interest and participation of each citizen! On behalf of Post No. 920, Commander Deyle expressed appreciation to the following clubs, and organizations for assistance in the sponsorship of local youths to the 1973 New York American Legion Boys State: Ilion Jr-Sr. High P.T.O.; Ilion Community Club; B.P.O.E. Ilion Lodge No. 1444; Ilion Lodge No. 591 Masons; Ilion Winter Club; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 502; Senior High Student Council.
