Ilion Elks Sponsored Youth Day

Youth Program - Village offices were occupied by youths yesterday as part of the Ilion Elks Youth Week program sponsored by the lodge. At the end of the day, the youths gathered at the lodge for a buffet supper. Participating were, from left, Mark Kasper, fire chief; Kevin Sorge, codes enforcement officer; Monica Block, housing director; and Nancy Morris; mayor, looking over the day's activities with Ernest Savage, exalted ruler.

ILION - Desks of village officials in the Municipal Building were occupied by high school boys and girls yesterday as youth took over village offices as part of the Ilion Elks Youth Day.

Ernest Savage, exalted ruler, reported that Mayor James Garnsey and other village officials met the youths at about 12:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building and the duties of individual offices were explained.

After a tour of the village water works and the water treatment plant, the youths settled down to gaining a better knowledge of how their particular offices function.

During a buffet supper sponsored by the lodge at 6:30 p.m. at the lodge, Savage said that certificates will be presented later by the lodge to each youth who participated.

The boys and girls holding office included: Nancy Morris, mayor; Mark Kasper, fire chief; Susan Morton and James Garnsey, as finance commissioner; Robert Vayo, public works commissioner.

Also, Philip Anderson, police commissioner; Aileen Carney, village attorney; Margie Vella, deputy village clerk; Kevin Sorge, codes enforcement officer; Eric Leskovec, engineer; Paul March, electric manager; Vaune Trautlein, water superintendent; Peggy Nile, police judge; ScottKerber, police chief.

Also, Randy Steele, streets superintendent; Paula Raymond, police desk lieutenant; Monica Block, housing director; Candy Luczynski, public librarian; Karen Gollegly, village clerk; Linda Service, traffic clerk; Kathy Morris, urban renewal director; and Robert McCann, recreation director.
