The Dotys and Ilion High ... Friends Through the Years

Ilion - The graduation of Erik Doty from Ilion High School this week will be the 10th graduation from the school for the Elverton Doty family in nine years.

The Elverton Dotys of Barringer Road, Ilion, have had at least one grandchild graduate each year since 1971.

This year's graduate, Erik, is the son of the Dotys youngest son, David Doty, Clark Place, Ilion.

"Erik is the last grandchild to graduate from the school," Mrs Doty said. "The first graduates were our elder son, Lawrence Pete's twins, Debbie and Donna."

In between, Lawrence's children Karen, Stephen and Anita Doty and David's children David Jr., Mary— Jane, John and Philip Doty all graduated.

The Dotys have a long-time involvement with the Ilion High School.

Her sons graduated from the school - Lawrence in 1946 and David in 1947.

She and her husband graduated from the school classes of 1921 and 1922, respectively.

Her husband's father, Howard Doty, graduated from the school in 1894.

Whether there will be more Doty graduates at Ilion High School in the future is not certain.

"We have two great-grandchildren, but they don't live in Ilion," Mrs. Doty said.

There is no telling if any of the grandchildren will settle in Ilion. Most have not settled down yet.

"But if they do, it will be awhile before there will be another Doty graduating from Ilion High School."
