Herkimer Evening Telegram - Ilion Commencement Ceremony Was Held - 1982

Ilion Commencement Ceremony Was Held

"Be Your Own Self," and "Don't Be Afraid To Set Goals For Yourself", were the themes of the salutatory and valedictory addresses this morning during commencement exercises for the class of 1982 at Ilion Central School. The speakers were Phyllis E Hoffman, salutatorian and Carol A. Ptasznik, valedictorian. Following entrance of the class to "Pomp and Circumstance", with Mrs. Linda Harter as organist, the Rev Gregory Mulhall, pastor of Annunciation Church, gave the invocation. Everyone sang "America, The Beautiful," and the two addresses were given. The graduation choir sang, "Turn Around" and "You'll Never Walk Alone."

Joseph A. Fusco, Superintendent of Schools, awarded the scholarships and the diplomas were presented by George Anderson, Board of Education president, Fusco and Charles Lang, High School principal. Senior Class President Thomas R. Haggerty formally accepted the diplomas on behalf of the class, which presented the school with a portable public address system as a gift. The benediction was given by the Rev Thomas Bennett, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Usherettes were members of the class of 1984 and flowers were given by the Class of 1983. A senior brunch was sponsored by the Ilion Junior Senior High PTO.
