Dr. Harry Jacob Chismore was born in Ilion, on May 30, 1880, the son of Henry and Mary (Hoffman) Chismore. He had three sisters, Maude A. Chismore, Emma E. Chismore, Inez M. Chismore. He also had two brothers Clarence and Edward. His brother, Clarence R. Chismore IHS 1907, was postmaster of Ilion. He was not listed in the Ilion Alumni Directory of 1925, however, based on when he graduated from dental school and when he was born, it is estimated that he was a member of the IhS Class of 1896. Dr. Harry Chismore obtained both a DDS and a MD degree, but primarily practiced dentistry. Harry Jacob Chismore obtained his degree of DDS at the commencement exercises of the College of Physicians and Surgeons which was held at the Odd Fellow's Hall, Thursday, evening, July 5, 1900. Dr. Harry J. Chismore was an associated student, College of Physicians and Surgeons, San Fransisco CA, School of Dentistry in 1900. He was a member of the Beta Sigma Chapter fraternity. He was also a member of the Executive Committee of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Alumni Association. According to the Biography of his brother, Clarence R. Chismore, History of the Mohawk Valley: Gateway to the West 1614-1925, Harry Jacob Chismore also had a medical degree.
He married Rachael McKay in 1908. Dr. Harry J. Chismore lived in San Francisco until 1947, when he and his wife returned to Napa for a year and then retired to Grass Vally. Dr. Chismore died in 1949.
