Younger Lovelace Power Jr. was born on September 22, 1936 in Ilion, NY. He was the son of Dr. Younger L. Power and Cleo Boock Power. His parents moved to Ilion in 1933. His father was plant physician for the Remington Arms until 1947 when he resigned to enter private practice. At that time, the family moved from 246 Fourth Avenue to the family home and office at 48 Morgan Street. Sadly, in his senior year of high school, his mother, Mrs. Cleo L. Power, died March 15, 1954. Younger Power Jr. graduated in the top ten of the Ilion High Class of 1954. He then attended Hamilton College to prepare to become a medical doctor. His father married Ruth Cathereine Ward on November 2, 1957. In 1958, he entered Upstate Medical School and graduated with the Class of 1962. He married Carol Edith Putnam IHS 1961, at the First Methodist Church, on September 12, 1964. Carol was the daughter of Leo D. Putnam, 238 Second St. She graduated from Crouse Irving Hospital School of Nursing and attended University College in Syracuse. Dr. Power practiced as a Preventive Medicine Specialist in Parkersburg, WV. The Powers currently live in Parkersburg, West Virginia. His only sibling, Mary Susan Power IHS 1953, earned her Bachelor of Arts from Wells College, her Master of Arts from Stanford University and her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. She taught at the University of Arkansas before moving to Jonesboro in 1968. Dr. Power taught political science at ASU for 32 years. She passed away of natural causes Aug. 9, 2021.
