Mr. Charles Lang was born, in Utica NY, on October 11, 1927, the son of Charles and Kathleen Flynn Lang. He moved to Ilion at the age of 5. He graduated from Annunciation Parochial Grammar School. He was a graduate of the Ilion High School Class of 1945. After high school, Mr. Lang served in the Army, in Panama, as a member of the Military Police. He graduated from Manhattan College with a B.S. degree in 1951. He earing his Master's Degree, in education, from Cortland State Teachers' College. He continued his graduate studies at New York University, Utica College and SUNY Oneonta.

Early in his career, Mr. Lang taught at an orphanage, the Graham School at Hastings-on-Hudson. At that institute, he was recreational director and a Boy Scout leader. In 1952, he became a member of the faculty at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill and was class adviser at that school district.

He married Verna LeClair on July 26, 1958.

Mr. Lang returned to his hometown and began his tenure with the Ilion Central School District in 1956. He taught Jr. High Math, Science, and English. He was Class Advisor for the Class of 1958. In addition to teaching and his administrative duties, Mr. Lang served as a basketball, football and golf coach. He was advisor to the high school ski club. He also advised the Junior High Senate. He was appointed Vice-Principal in 1964. Mr. Lang was appointed Principal, in 1978, by the Board of Education to replace Henry Bartosik whose contract expired on June 30, 1978. Mr. Lang was among six candidates for the position, of which, three were interviewed. Mr. Lang's salary as Principal was set at $25,200. His appointment was made in the same week that the Board appointed Joseph Fusco, the Barringer Road Principal, to the position of Superintendent. Mr. Lang retired in 1984 after working in education for 32 years.

Mr. Lang was a member of the Church of Annunciation and Annunciation School Board. He was a member of the Ilion Knights of Columbus. He served as a member and president of the Valley United Way Fund. He served on the Ilion Board of Light Commissioners and the Community Maternity Services. He was active in many local athletic groups including the Utica MUNY League. He was a swimming instructor and lifeguard at the Ilion Municipal Pool.

Sadly, Mr. Lang was diagnosed with early on-set Alzheimer's disease. He succumbed to his illness on Saturday, January 7, 1995 in Canandaigua. He was 67 years old. He was survived by his wife, Verna, their daughters, Tammera, Wendy, Gretchen and sons, Greg and Steven Lang. He was also survived by grandson, Brandon Earl, his brothers, Donald and Martin, a sister, Judy Walsh and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at the Church of Annunciation and internment was in Armory Hill Cemetery.
