Class Portraits for 1926 .....

Thank you to Mike Disotelle of the Ilion Public Library for providing 53 portraits for the 83 students who graduated in 1926. The 1926 yearbook did not contain senior pictures. However, a poster board of composite senior photos was located in the Ilion Public Library. Some of the images were missing from the board. If you know of any family members who may have the original class composite photograph with all 83 students, please notify the library so that the missing photographs might be included in the future. Dr. Harold G. Ross - Pharmacist and Physician....

Ilion High Class of 1926 - Harold G. Ross

IHS 1926 alumnus, Harold G. Ross was among the graduates who pursued a career in pharmacy and medicine and was added to the features Alumni Pharmacists - IHS Class of 1926 Harold G. Ross and Alumni Physicians (added March 11, 2023)

 

Carleta Sterling Mixer-Cox Bequest....

Ilion High Class of 1926 - Carleta Sterling

On November 18, 2005, Carleta Sterling Mixer-Cox died at the age of 95. In her last will and testament, Carleta had nearly a $1 million bequest for the Ilion Free Public Library to be used for programming, improvements, and other benefits for patrons. As a result of this bequest, the director and staff of the Ilion Free Public Library held a reception on November 13, 2008 to posthumously honor Carleta Sterling Mixer-Cox for her generosity. Condolences....

Ethel Joyce Pierce Bathke, IHS 1926, died May 9, 2000, eleven days short of her 92nd birthday. She was born May 20, 1908 in North Ilion daughter of Louisa Coleman and Seymour Simpson Pierce. She graduated from Ilion high school class of 1926 and married Ralph Bathke of Poland ny. Ralph predeceased her in 1979. She had no children and leaves two nieces Joyce (Smith) Degenshein class of 1948 and Karen (Smith) Sauer class of 1959. Eppy was a true lover of nature and spent most of her life in the areas of Raquette and Blue montain lake working at the private estates there. Her remains will be scattered over "North Point" where she was happiest. (May 19, 2000)

 

Helen Schell Kennell, IHS 1926, 91, passed away October 21, 1999, at Valley Health Services, Herkimer. She was born Oct. 31, 1907, in Ilion, the daughter of Abraham and Sarah Schell. She graduated from Ilion High School in 1926 and attended hair-dressing school in New York City. She married Francis J. Kennell in 1929. Her huband died on March 23, 1972. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Mary Kennell of Harrisburg, Pa., and Alan and Maxine Kennell of Frankfort; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Stanley Ford of Ilion and Jean and Gary Greig of Ilion; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Harry (Loretta) Schell of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Peter (Peg) Kennell of Ilion; and several nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Margaret Schell Hannon and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Robert (Jean) Kennell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held October 24, at 10 am, at Annunciation Church, Ilion. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Little Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Health Services, Herkimer. (October 24, 1999)

 

Elizabeth M. Seibert Klippel, IHS 1926, age 90, died July 25, 1999, at her home in Ilion. She was born Dec., 3, 1908, in Ilion, the daughter of the late William and Inez Bordon Seibert. She was a member of the Ilion High School Class of 1926. She graduated from Drake's Business School in New Brunswick, NJ. She married Wagner Klippel in Ilion on June 14, 1930. Mrs. Kippel was employed as a stenographer in the Remington Cash Register until 1931. She later worked for the local draft board. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard and Ann Klippel of Liverpool, Robert and Delores Klippel of Ilion and Frederick Klippel of Newport; a daughter, Susan Klippel of North Syracuse; seven grand-children and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Steve; and her brother, Bordon Seibert. Funeral services are scheduled for July 28 from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, followed by interment in Cedarville Cemetary. Friends are asked to consider memorials to the Ilion United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children's Hospital. (July 26, 1999)

 

Muriel C. Schwartz Deller, IHS 1926,89, passed away March 4, 1998 in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Deller graduated with the IHS Class of 1926. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Evening Star Valley Chapter #82 for 48 years. Funeral arrangements were through Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Frankfort. Contributions in Muriel's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society. (March 18, 1998)
