Priest, Once Ilion Resident Dies Suddenly ILION - Rev. William P. Anderson, 36, pastor of St. Anthony's Church, North Beach, Md., a former Ilion resident, died Wednesday at Newark, N. J. Father Anderson had accompanied his mother, Mrs. James Anderson of Hoefler Ave., Ilion, to Newark Airport where she was to board a plane for Utica en-route home, when he was stricken. He died a few minutes later. He was born in Wilkesbarre, Pa. son of James and Charlotte (Burke) Anderson. He graduated from Annunciation School, Ilion, in 1940, attended Ilion High School and later St. Andrew's. Preparatory Seminary, Rochester. Father Anderson received his bachelor's degree from Our Lady of Angels Seminary, Niagara University. He completed his theological studies at Catholic University of America, Washington D.C. He was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Washington in 1952 in St. Matthew's Cathedral. Washington, by Archbishop Patrick A. O'Boyle. He celebrated his first solemn Mass June 15. 1952 in Church of the Annunciation. Ilion. Later he was named assistant pastor of St. Anne's Church, Washington. In 1954, Father Anderson was named director of radio and television for the Arch-diocese of Washington. At the same time he was general manager of the Catholic Standard, diocesan newspaper and a member of the archdiocese's Marriage Court. Besides his mother he is survived by two brothers. Dr. James S. Anderson, Ilion dentist, and Carl Anderson, Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Mrs. Gordon Tucker, Schuyler. A requiem mass will be offered tomorrow in St. Anthony's Church, North Beach, and funeral mass will be conducted Monday from St. Anne's Church, Washington, D. C. The remains will be placed in St. Agnes vault, North Ilion, on Monday with burial in Calvary Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are being conducted by the Applegate Funeral Home.
