Proceeds will be used to benefit the American Field Service program. ILION - "110 In The Shade" will be presented by the Ilion Central School Music Dept., for three nights, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 12, 13 and 14. Performances will begin at 8 p m in the HIS auditorium "110 in the Shade" will star Elaine Hyer and Kevin Ferguson with supporting roles being played by Jeff Coffin, Kevin Gould, Doug Durand and Martin Snedeker under the direction of Hal Thomas. Scene director is Cissy Hoffman with Linda Service serving as assistant director and Heidi Meritt in charge of costume. The musical takes place in the early 1900's in the town of Three Points, Colo. and deals with a con-man who claims he can cure a drought by milking the heavens through magic. The rainmaker's real specialty is showing folks how to make life prettier through the power of positive self-deception. Elaine Hyer as Lizzie portrays an ugly duckling girl who is changed into a beautiful swan. She depicts her loneliness when she sings "Love Don't Turn Away" and later she unites with Kevin Ferguson, playing Starbuck, and sings "You're Not Foolin' Me". A large Choir, portraying the townspeople of Three Points, backs up the major characters with numbers such as: "Rain Song", "Poker Polka", "Is It Really Me?" and "Cinderella". '110 In The Shade' At IHS April 12-14 It's very difficult to write a joyous musical that takes place in a heat-parched dust bowl, but 110 IN THE SHADE, the musical mode from Richard Nash's THE RAINMAKER does so in this story dealing with an itinerant common who claims he can cure a farm land drought by milking the heorons through magic. At the final curtain "durned if he doesn't deliver." Elaine Hyer plays the lead role of Lizzie; Kevin Ferguson plays "Storbuck", the rain maker. Jeff Coffin, Kevin Gould, Doug Durand and Martin Snedeker also have lead parts. However, many students are involved in this music department production, directed by Hal Thomas. A large choir plays the towns people from Three Point, Colorado, the setting of the play. Also, a sophomore in Ilion High School has taken on the arduous task as art director of the musical, which is to be presented April 12, 13 and 14 at Ilion HS auditorium. Cissy Hoffman directs all the art work, and design of stage and scenery which is difficult since it involves the early 1900s. Heidi Merrit in the costume department fitting all the actors for their early 1900s costumes. As the musical moves toward its happy ending, the audience will be completely caught up in this story which is tender and endearing without being sentimental. The proceeds from this production will be used by the local American Field Service Club to bring another exchange student to Ilion. founded in 1960, the local club and chapter have hosted nine students, including Brigette Obrecht, our foreign exchange student this year. The club has already sent five Ilion students abroad to such places as the Philippines, Malaysia and Brazil. Kathy Morris is a guaranteed candidate for the 1973 summer program.
