Condolences....Warren M. Angell, PhD, IHS '25,, 98, died May 6, 2006. Dr. Angell was one of Illion's most celebrated graduates. He was Dean Emeritus of the Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts, Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee, OK. Dr. Angell built one of the finest fine arts colleges in the nation. In May, 1997, the Oklahoma Baptist University honored Dr. Angell on his 90th birthday. The following was extracted from the OBU Bison Glee Club HomePage. "Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on May 13, 1907, Warren Angell graduated from Ilion, N.Y., High School, and received both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in piano and composition from Syracuse University, in Syracuse, N.Y. He served as Dean of the College of Fine Arts at Oklahoma Baptist University. In 1956, the board of trustees of Oklahoma Baptist University named the college the "Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts". He has won wide acclaim as a choral director and is in demand in 16 states for festivals and clinics. He has perfected choral techniques in the OBU Bison Glee Club, which has won national prominence, making seven commercial records, appearing in 1965 on the Great Choirs of America Voice of Christmas Series over NBC and other television and radio programs." Funeral services were held May 12, 2006 on the OBU campus. (May 18, 2006)
Marguerite D. "Margie" (Kelley) Adams, IHS Alumnus,, age 91, passed away December 1, 1999 at the Folts Home, Herkimer, NY. She was born February 25, 1908 in Frankfort, the daughter of John and Margaret (Davenport) Kelley. She was a graduate of Ilion High School. She married Fred. L. Adams in Ilion on September 3, 1932. Mr. Adams passed away October 7, 1967. From 1945-1967, Margie and her husband, Fred, owned and operated "Fred's Drive-In" located in the Ilion Gorge. Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas F. and Saundra Adams, of Caribou, Maine, and Gary R. and Elizabeth Adams of Ilion; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Rena Scanlon, and her brother, Thomas Kelley. Interment will take place in Armory Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Ilion Fire Dept.
