Lawrence "Larry" DelGrego, Jr., IHS 1983, passed away at home, on Sunday, June 9, 2024, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. He was 59 years old. He was surrounded by his loving family who cared for him until the end. Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Kimberly, of almost 35 years; his 3 children, Luke (Alexandra Hunt) DelGrego, of Sauquoit, NY, Troy (Logan Edson) DelGrego and Paige (Mark Hennings) DelGrego, of Ilion NY; and his granddaughter, Collins DelGrego, the twinkle of his eye. He is also survived by his sister, Tracy (Donna) DelGrego and their 3 children, Zach DelGrego, of Miami FL, Matt DelGrego and Kate DelGrego, of Webster NY; his brother and sisters-in-law, John (Jolene) Day II, of Cedar Lake NY, Gregory (Mary) Day, of Clayton NY and Timothy (Pattie) Day, of Ilion NY. Larry leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Larry was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence (Babe) DelGrego and Elisabeth (Chic) DelGrego and John (Jack) Day and Charlotte Day; and a cherished nephew, Jack Day. Larry graduated from High School in 1983 and continued his education at Morrisville, graduating with an Associates Degree in Automotive Technology. Machines and engines continued to be a passion throughout his life. Larry never stopped learning new skills and added carpentry to his repertoire. He could make anything, fix anything and build anything. In addition to his own homes, he willingly shared his skills with others and was always a call away. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father, Larry continued the high-quality craftsmanship of Parker gun restoration and repair at Larry DelGrego and Son. He earned the respect of antique collectors, hunters and sportsman, throughout the nation. Larry was a proud Ilion Firefighter for over 32 years and an active-duty Deputy Chief. As a firefighter, Larry received many distinguished awards and accolades for his services performed at the line of duty. His most rewarding accomplishment, however, was training and mentoring new firefighters. A three-season athlete himself, he continued his love of sports by coaching the young athletes in Ilion. His coaching usually included one or more of his children and crossed multiple seasons: Pop Warner Football, Pee Wee Wrestling, AYSO Soccer, Little League Baseball and girls' softball. Larry loved his hobbies and included his family in golfing, boating, camping at Moffitt's Beach and truck pulling. Shopping may not have been one of his preferred hobbies, but he never missed a trip to the mall with Kim. He was a member of the Annunciation Church, Ilion Fish and Game Club, International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) Local 1185 and a 4th degree member of the Ilion Knights of Columbus. A true role model to his children, he was always willing to help, generously giving and most importantly, guiding them through all life milestones. His devotion and admiration for Kim set an example for their own relationships. Their best memories are ones spent with him. There was nothing he was prouder of than his marriage and his children. Sustained by the devotion and love of his entire family, Larry fought until the very end. He wanted nothing more than additional time with them. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Ilion Firefighters, Local 1185, at 1 Central Ave, Ilion, NY 13357. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours, on Friday, June 14, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd, Ilion, NY. (315) 894-8000. The Ilion Knights of Columbus will gather at the funeral home, on Friday, at 3: 00 p.m., for a Ritualistic Service. As a concluding evening tribute, any active and all area fire departments are invited to join members of the Ilion Fire Department, at 7:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home, for a Ritualistic Service. His Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Church of the Annunciation, West Street, in Ilion, New York and interment shall follow at Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. "Well folks, this is our 25th year out of High School. Any plans for a reunion? Haven't heard from anyone or seen any information yet. Our site doesn't ever appear to change. I have been pretty busy like most of you. My wife and I opened a Family Entertainment Center in Endicott, NY. It inlcudes Laser Tag, Batting Cage, Indoor Miniature Golf, Token Redemption Games (like a Chuck E. Cheese), and most importantly an Indoor Paintball Facility. I also work in Syracuse at this time. Hope to hear from someone soon.."

"Hi everyone from Class of 1983, "We welcomed my newest and last little boy into the world on July 10, 2006. His name is Elijah Matthew and he came into the world at a tiny 3 lbs. 10 ozs. He's doing great though and at 10 months old is running me ragged. He joins his 3 very much older brothers. They range from the youngest of which is 19 and in the Marines to my oldest who is 22 and in the Air Force. Talk about starting over. Hope all is well with everyone in Ilion and everyone else scattered across the world."

"Hi! My family and I have recently relocated to the beautiful (and warm!) state of Virginia. There IS definitely something to be said about that "Southern Charm"!! My husband got a "big fat promotion" and, as they say, the rest is history. Both my sons are loving it and didn't miss a beat with the transition. Their teachers say it's like they've been here all along. Jake is 8 now and is in 3rd grade and Sam is 6 and in Kindergarten. Jake has been accepted to the "Gifted and Talented" program at school. So smart ... just like his Mama. tee, hee I am volunteering just as much down here as I did in Westmoreland and loving every minute of it! I wouldn't trade this time with my boys for all the money in the world!! I'd love to hear from all of you too ... same e-mail address. Take care, jo"

"After teaching for six years at Brevard Community College and serving as department chair for two years, I decided to pursue my dream of teaching at a four-year university where my scholarship would be encouraged. I'm happy to report that I was offered and accepted a tenure-track position at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach where I will be teaching Humanities and Literature courses. An essay that I wrote about teaching feminist theory will be a book chapter in the anthology, Fractured Feminisms, published by SUNY at Albany Press for 2003. Currently, I'm writing a book on working class women and childcare with my former professor, Kim Landon, from Utica College. We're interested in hearing stories from working mothers, especially those who worked and relied on childcare (family, neighbors, day nurseries, etc.)prior to the 1980s. If you have a unique story, please contact me at my e-mail address. I'd love to interview you to include your story in the book!" (August 6, 2002)

"Well, my sister Janet sent me news about the plans for a multi-class reunion so I finally went on the site & learned a lot! I thought I would put in my update- as I registered on the site-I am a domestic engineer ie...stay at home mom! I am Registered in Diagnosic Sonography (do Ultrasound)& keep up my credit hours but haven't done it since my 2nd round of full bed rest with our son Grant who is now almost 9! I have to say I haven't missed the stress & have enjoyed being home with our kids - Danietta will be 11 yrs old in April. I do work a few hours a week for my husband who is a Family Physician here in Syracuse & he is overloaded with work (somehow still patient & kind!) so I am able to keep things going here & get the kids to where they need to be. I volunteer at school & also at my former employer - Crouse Hospital in Pastoral Care bringing Communion to patients one day a week. Also help out at Church & last year my husband & I had the challenge of finishing teaching Confirmation class for the 2 yr program. I have learned a lot since Annunciation (since we didn't really learn too much in Rel. Ed.!)but we also learned a lot about what teenagers face these days (they were too comfortable with us & told a lot!) For those of you who have teenagers or who are done like the Salvagni's- any other advice?! I have also done some traveling- to Bosnia twice & for our 10th Anniversary my husband & I went to Italy which was so neat on a pilgrimage with about 80 other people & a friend who is a Priest. Thankfully he was originally from Italy so he could find out where the best restrooms (if there are any!) & restaurants were!! I obviously have a great mother in-law who loves to take care of her grandkids. I plan on doing the same for my kids someday! So needless to say, I don't know where my days go but they go by too fast! Like the almost 20 yrs we have been out of High School! Hope the Fall 2002 reunion works out as my siblings would also like to come! too & I would be able to see all of you! God Bless" Bonnie (Robinson)Charles

"I had a busy year. I finally finished my doctorate in American Literature at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Il. in November. Earlier in the fall, I received tenure and a promotion at Brevard Community College in Melbourne, Florida where I am an Associate Professor of Communications and Literature. Most importantly, my husband, Eric, and I had our first baby in March, a beautiful little girl named Emily Paige. She's the joy of our lives! My Mom & Dad watch her during the day while I'm teaching (my folks retired to Florida & live 5 minutes away!)."

Since high school, I kept up with my writing and published some poetry, critical articles, and presented numerous papers at conferences like the Mid-west Modern Language Association, the 20th-century Literature Conference, and the Irish Studies Conference. In addition, I've been involved with the Margaret Atwood Society for a number of years, and I'm listed on their WEB page as a former bibliographer."

I love living in Florida, but I really miss the fall leaves. Whenever I hear about the blizzards and the below zero temps, I don't miss the snow."

What's Ilion High School up to these days? Apparently we're high tech now with our WEB page. It looks wonderful, by the way. Congratulations to theWEBmistress!"
